1.0 Introduction
The current requirement of the business is to maintain their functional area which
can help to arrange the entire operational task in a systematic manner. Basically
functional areas is a strategically framework which aid to manage the all the activities
department basis in an organization (Bauer and et. al., 2018). There are various
functional areas are involved in the companies like human resource, finance, marketing,
customers services, research & development & many others which can helpful to
manage all the employees related operations in an appropriate way. The prime concern
of this project is to discuss about the IMO Electronics Limited Company which is
operating by John. As per the case study, through lottery amount, it is decided to
purchase a local firm. John do not have adequate knowledge & understanding about
running business that's why John hired employees to prepare a report for business.
2.0 What is a business
Business is working as an enterprising entity that connected with the industrial,
professional & commercial activities. In other words, business is an entity that mainly
organized all the operations of the individuals to producing & selling products & services
to generate profit (Di Gregorio and et. al., 2019).
3.0 What is Functional areas of business
There is requirement of functional areas in order to make successful each & every
activities of the business. Generally most of the businesses maintain specific functions
areas that can aid to maintain entire management & operations. Production,
manufacturing, promoting, selling, delivering & maintaining the goods & services is the
main concern of the functional areas of the businesses (Gutiérrez, 2021). Managers &
leaders are responsible to maintain all these functional areas in order to balance all the
activities of employees so that they can improve their competencies & skills.
4.0 What are the key functional areas of a business
For successful business operations, it is necessary for their owner to consider key
functional areas of their business so that they can systematically balance all the
ongoing activities of their company. There is Involvement of some effective functional

areas like human resource, finance, R& D, marketing & many others. All these functions
units are playing a prominent role to manage proper organizational structure in the
company & balance effectively coordination with the other functional units as per to
achieve objectives of the firm (Henríquez-Machado, Muñoz-Villamizar and Santos,

5.0 Description of the various functional areas in business

5.1 Marketing
Marketing is a strategically process which can helpful to boost the purchasing,
selling & also delivering the activities of the companies through appropriate promotional
& advertisement of products & services. There are various components of marketing & it
is determined that digital marketing is one of the most effective key component of
marketing which can help improve the market position & business operations via online
digital marketing platform. This functional unit is most useful & benefits for the
businesses.
5.2 Human Resource Management
This functional unit is on demand in the companies because without this functional
units it is not possible to take care of employees & also keep a record about their each
& every activities. HR manager is responsible to maintain specific functions like
recruitment, selection, orientation, development, performance management, training
sessions and many more. All these functions of HR are helpful to maintain a specific
management with the Manager, employees, leaders & workers (Kavanagh and
Johnson, 2017).
5.3 Customer Service
This functional area mainly concerned about the customers and also so helpful to
understand the requirement of customers so that company can effectively provide them

5.4 Finance
Without this functional area it is not possible for the company to survive at the whole
market place. This financial area is considered like a backbone of the company because
without finance and capital no one can start a business successfully. Financial manager
is responsible to allocate the finance as per the department requirement and prepare a
specific budget for each and every department of the company so that they can work
properly without any financial problem (Lawler, 2020).
5.5 Research and Development
The importance of this financial area is more because the department is helpful to
identify and investigate specific facts and information which are beneficial for the
development of the firm. The main role of this department is to conduct market research
and address the current needs of the customers so that company can effectively
consider some changes in their production process and then fulfill the requirement of
their customers & gain customer satisfaction level.
5.6 Sales
The significance of this department is more because the whole growth of the company
is depend on this functional area. It is necessary for the company to prepare a specific
strategy & appropriate plans in order to boost the sealing of the firm so that company
can take more competitive advantages as compared to their rivals.

to work effectively in these functional areas

marketing field. It is necessary for the individual to have this skill which can help

the employees so that they can work collectively & improve their productivity.

employees so that relevant information can be proceed. Negotiation & persuasion - Through this skill , individual can make a good
deal & negotiate the parties to obtain specific resources. This case is also

and clients it is necessary for the individuals to have a excellent communication
skills. With the help of the skills individual can effectively satisfy queries & doubt
of the customers and also solve their problem so that they can provide them
positive feedback which is beneficial for the company (Wheelen and et. al.,
2017).
Positive attitude - This skill is beneficial to influence the customers & also
helpful to fulfill their expectation. Individual need to contain positive attitude
when they interact with the customers & also communicate with their native
language so that they can connect with the employees and effectively share
their issues.
6.4 Skills needed by Finance employees
Mathematical Proficiency - To shape career in finance field , it is essential to
have understanding about the mathematical proficiency. Financial manager is
responsible to prepare budget for each and every department as per their

individual so that it is easy to understand all the facts and figures and maintain

6.5 Skills needed by Research and Development employees Thinking & reasoning skills - To analyze specific facts & details it is mandatory
to have thinking and also reasoning skills so that individual can effectively
investigate appropriate information as per their requirement. Grow this skill,
individual can add more value in their operation and maintain the performance of
the firm at the entire marketplace. Team leading - In order to maintain specific research project it is prominent for
the individual to have team leading skills so that we can actually participate in the
project management activities and also maintain proper co-ordination with their
team members. Team leading is beneficial for the development of employees
and also improve their productivity level.
6.6 Skills needed by Sales employees Decisions making skill - The requirement of this skill is more because through

can boost the sales of the company & improve the profitability rate. For the sales

Handling stress - It is necessary for the individual to manage their stress level

7.0 Conclusion
As per this study, it can be concluded that it is mandatory for each & every
organization whether it is small or large. There are some specific functional units are
considered by the companies so that it is made possible to arrange all the activities in
an appropriate way. This study determined that marketing, human resource, research
and development, finance & sales are appropriate functional areas which companies
demonstrate their active participation. This study also evaluated specific skills for the
employees which are required all these functional areas.
