Summary
Blockchain technology is an effective technological advancement which
was introduced in the year 2009 so that all the information regarding any
process could be stored in the form of blocks. There are evidences that
supported the fact that implementation of Blockchain could also help the
healthcare processes by restoring the patient data, their medication
history and others so that quality and holistic nature could be
implemented in the care process. India being the home of 1.3 billion
people requires one such crucial technology so that all the needs of the
patients and their information could be served effectively and the patients
could be provided with critical care. Hence, the aim of this report is to
study the Opportunities and Challenges of implementing Blockchain
technology in the Indian healthcare system.
Background
Blockchain technology was first developed in 2008 and introduced in 2009, the form
of a public ledger where all transactions are stored in the form of blocks(Zheng et
al., 2018). It is a type of distributed & decentralized digital ledger helps in recording
all the transaction across multiple systems, where data cannot be altered
retroactively without the altercation of all ensuing blocks & collusion of networks
(KefaRabah, 2017). Healthcare is a domain where large data is generated,
disseminated, stored archived and accessed in a day to day life. To enhance the
quality of care to patients technology is very significant and also reduces cost
(Esposito, 2018). India with its huge inconsistency in healthcare facilities,
lack of technically trained healthcare professionals and infrastructure, and
very low investment of government budget on Healthcare, requires one
such robust technology to be implemented for its growth and
development. In the world, India is a country with innovative and
sustained technologies to improve lives and hence, it is important that the
Indian healthcare system adopts such fast and trustworthy technologies
so that majority of the patients could be provided with quality and
effective care (Marolt, 2018). Further, it would help the Indian healthcare

system to achieve their goals of Universal healthcare so that patients
could be provided with critical care.
This research paper discusses the block chain technology, its implementation,
challenges & opportunities in the health care domain in India from the insights of its
implementation in other similar countries obtained from various research papers.
Proposed Research Question
What are the opportunities and challenges implementing Blockchain technology in the Indian health care
system which is evaluated and discussed from the insights of various research papers from the Countries
for better understanding?
Research Methodology
While searching for the research articles it is important to conduct an accurate
search n the scientific databases so that all the research articles that could
help in answering the research question could be identified and answered
in this research paper, through the help of search strategy. As per
McGowan et al. (2016), conducting a critical and productive search
strategy helps to identify the aspects that are deeply connected with the
research question. To find out the critical complications due to which the
Blockchain technology was not being able to be implemented in the Indian
healthcare system, systematic search was conducted to identify the
research articles associated with it.
Pub Med is the electronic database that would be used for this purpose as
more than 80,000 research articles associated to several research articles
has been included in this research database. There are multiple keywords
that would be searched through an appropriate permutation and
combination so that all the answer related to this could be addressed in
the research process. The keywords could be “Blockchain technology in
the Indian health care”, “opportunities and challenges”, “healthcare
benefits”, “complications” and all these keywords would be effectively
included in the systematic search. Multiple exclusion and inclusion criteria
would be used for this research search method so that accuracy could be
maintained and only the research articles accurate for this search process
could be collected. The inclusion criteria for this paper would be research
paper publication within last 5 years, publication language English,
presence of a data collection and data analysis method in the research
paper, full text articles. Whereas, the exclusion criteria would be language
other than English, publication date other than last 5 year, descriptive
