FUNDAMENTALS OF WINDOWS AND LINUX OPERATING SYSTEM1
Section 1
Answer 1
For a new operating system for the IoT devices or appliances, it is
important to have machine learning and Artificial Intelligence module. As
the usage of the appliances can personalize the user interactions and
energy usage by these appliances. In addition to that, as the devices are
smaller in size and has lesser memory size thus it is also important for the
new OS to run the application and fetch data from the different libraries
used for the communication between the nodes [2]. In this way the,
required memory and energy consumption can be lowered so that
different functionalities can be implemented that can be executed by the
Operating system.
Answer 2
The Linux and Windows operating systems provides the role,
authentication based user accounts. Such as root in Linux and
Administrator for windows. This is helpful in securing computing resources
from unauthorised access. This is helpful in protecting the computer from
intrusion and attacks [5]. Task scheduling is another functionality that are
supported by both the operating system. In Windows operating system
this functionality is managed by using Task Scheduler and in Linux this is
handled by “cron”.
Both this operating systems provide inbuilt firewall applications.
These are mainly the defence against any virus/malicious attack.
Moreover, these operating systems uses virtual memory in order to
execute applications [6]. In case of windows and Linux, the operating
systems can be used for running on low-memory computing
systems/servers.

With the help of the BIOS available and hard-coded on the
motherboard. Using this the operating systems controls input and output
to the operating system from the devices. ROM BIOS chip or firmware
chip is another component that helps in controlling the device
interactions. Again the BIOS is also categorised in three parts. First
category is responsible for control I/O devices. next category helps in
controlling the start-up services and application. Last one is helpful for
changing the setup data that stored on CMOS.
Answer to question 4
Batch processing is considered important for the processing huge
number of processes at a free time when most of the computing resource
are available. In this way batched processes make the optimal use of the
scarce resources [3]. As presently there is availability of scalable cloud
computing abilities this helps in improved processing and throughput of
tasks. The relevance was important in offline systems by ensuring CPU is
used as efficiently as possible. As in offline systems computer systems
have to wait to for the upload of the data for the process.
Answer to question 5
After reasserting about the different Os’s, it is found that RIOT is
most important and efficient OS. This OS is modular in nature; it OS
ensures the minimal memory usage for the processing of the applications
[2]. depending on the few hundred bytes of RAM it can easily run.
Furthermore it also supports entire network stack such as 802.15.4 Zigbee
protocol, LoWPAN, RPL, Ipv6, ICMP66, CoAP and so on [6].
