Future Work Skills 2
In the current business market, employers are looking for the employees who have the
skills of working and effectively doing the job with consideration of what they might be
expected to do in the future. In addition, studying about employability skills and future work
skills has enabled me to learn that having employability skills like problem-solving, cross-
cultural competence and teamwork skills will assist me in effectively working and relating well
with other people in the current business market.
I have learned that being able to solve problems in the workplace will enable me to be
competitive in life and business. According to Davies, Fidler and Gorbis (2011 p.540) it is
important for job seekers to be able to find solutions that are logical to the problems that occur in
the workplace. While problem-solving is important in the workplace, it is also a skill which goes
on in the life of an individual. Completing the Career Development Theory has enabled me to
improve my problem-solving skills in the contribution towards productive outcomes.
Furthermore, having effective skills of solving problems will be of assistance in my career as I
will be able to make sound decisions through creative development and identifying options while
applying clear judgment and implementing my decisions effectively to solve the problem.
The employment development profile has assisted me in realizing that it is important for
employees to have effective teamwork skills. Research on “Project-based learning for the 21st
century: Skills for the future by Bell (2010 p.40) shows that successful teamwork is depended
on the synergy existing between members of a team and the creation of an environment where
employees are willing to participate and contribute to the team. I have learned that for teams to
achieve their goal, members must have the right teamwork skills by being flexible and adaptable
to diverse work environments. Further research by Hodge and Lear (2011 p.30) shows that
effective teamwork skills assist teams in achieving their goals through respect and collaboration.
