 Intro
The LGBT community is the group of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender. This
community is also termed as a gay community. In the United States, heterosexuality is
normal and it is taken for granted. The mentality of the society towards gay people is being
changed over time and many people are showing a positive attitude to this fact. Teachers are
playing an important role in making students understand that being attracted to the same sex
is not incorrect. However, some of the community people still believe in only homosexuality.
This study is focusing on the status of LGBT people in the United States. On the other hand,
two social issues are being discussed are relevant to LGBT people in the US.
Thesis statement: LGBT people must get equal opportunities and respect from all

the social ground.
 Historically, what has been the social status of LGBT people?
The social status of the LGBT community is not good. Previously people of this
community have to hide their identity and feelings. If people found someone being gay, that
person was ostracized and bullied in society. Still now, many individuals of the LGBT
community hide their needs and preferences from the society in the fear of getting ostracized.
They fear to lose their jobs and social status. Individuals of this community are devoid of
equal opportunities and face discrimination in every aspect of life. Many times they are
expelled from employment and faces hate crimes (Blosnich et al. 2016). They face
discrimination in education, workplace, and other social classes. They have been looked as
wrong and their sexual preferences are considered immoral. Even in holy places like churches,
they have been discriminated from their rights.
 What is the status of LGBT people in the United States today?
The status of LGBT is not much different as it was before. According to the data of
2010 near about 594000 same-sex couples stays in the United States. However, today the
people of the LGBT community come forward more and express their views and feelings in
society (Luiggi-Hernández et al. 2015). The people of this community still face many
hardships while finding jobs and get discriminated in the workplace and even in the church.
However, the US army allows LGBTs to be a part of the army but still, they face
discrimination and harassment by fellow soldiers. The county board of Rhea County has
allowed prosecution of people of the LGBT community and they called it a crime against
