Introduction
The participation of women in sport has a long history that is marked by division and prejudice.
Gender equality in sports has become a controversial topic. The interest of women towards
sports has been increased day by day. The participation of women along with men has risen
enormously in the Olympic Games but due to position of men and women on different profile
generate lowest prestige. This assignment is divided into two parts in which one will elaborate
the history of gender equality in sports and other part will highlight the developments and
implementation of strategies for gender equality in sports. Both parts will cover three topics
respectively in order to define the clear depiction of gender equality within the sports industry.

The reason behind choosing this article is that it depicts clear understanding about the leadership
position of men and women in sports. The main aim of this paper is to review the various tests
that contribute in getting knowledge regarding why there are few women in leadership position
in sports. Two level of review are being done under this paper in which macro level perspective
elaborates the institutionalized practices of gender in sports and meso level review entails
concerns for discrimination.

Illinois Press.
This author portrays the growth of sport for women, majorly in tennis, basketball and golf.
However, this article highlights the factor in the relation of the continuing gap in respect, pay and
opportunity between men and women. It has been described under this article by author that to
find success, women athletes should display right type of femininity and consider sexual
attractiveness along with maintaining the heterosexuality.

Fink elaborated that the level of participation of women in the sports is huge. But, still many
females and women attain starkly disparate treatment by the sport media commercial complex in
comparison to males. It is necessary for the sports community to keep focus on such issue
seriously. The differences between qualitative and quantitative and negative influence due to this

differential coverage on the women’s sports has been reviewed. The strategies and tactics have
been defined which would be helpful for my assignment to pay attention of mitigation strategies
of negative impact on women sports and female athletes.

It is the article that defines about the cricket sports in which the involvement of men and women
has been described. The author has highlighted four themes under this article that are discipline
perspective, structured opportunities, commercialization and global context. The main theme is
based on the human rights of young athletes so that they could not get physically and mentally
abused by others. The discussion was being made on the meaning of violence in sports. This
article is helpful to me to understand the term of violenece in the context of gender equality is
sports.

Gender Studies, 25(5), 586-598.
This research is based on the interview process in which 30 sport-based employers have been
chosen in the UK. This journal article is being chosen for the assignment because it provides
clear picture regarding the impact of gender segregation and team sport experience on
occupational discrimination in employment in the field of sports.
