Gender inequality refers to the unequal treatment of men and women in the society.
There is basic difference between the men and women, which is termed with sex that is the
biological and structural difference between men and women. Gender is the social difference
between these two sexes. The term Gender is a socio cultural notion that refers to the socially
structured roles and behavioral aspects that are created by an expected form the society. Men
and women are assigned with and are required to elicit different sets of roles and behavioral
aspects, as per the social belief, which states that, women are incapable of meeting certain
roles and committing certain behavioral approaches, and hence the roles that are to be
assigned to the women should differ from those assigned to men. Gender inequality,
therefore, refers to the unequal treatment of the men and the women of the society, which
affects their experiences in their daily lives. It refers to the discriminations and exploitations
and the situation of subjugations that are faced and experienced by the women of the society
based on their sex, since they era e considered to be the weaker sex (Hammarström et al,
2014). Women are assigned in the subordinate positions and therefore, are degraded and are
denied certain basic opportunities and leverages that rev applicable or provided to the male
section of the society.
The instigation of this discriminated situations lies in the belief that men are more
capable and therefore, the society must be governed and ruled by the male section of the
society. In simplified words, the patriarchal structure and patterns of the society, provides the
ground for the discriminations and the exploitations of the society. The discrimination against
women, and the unequal treatment of the same, had been an age old cultural system that
addresses and accounts to the patriarchal structure of the society, and the system of belief,
which gives rise to the domination and exploitation and oppression of the women. The
religion has a great role in this particular social structure (Lamont, Beljean & Clair, 2014).
The religious beliefs and ideas and the practices uphold and encourage the practice of the

patriarchal structure of the society. The patriarchal beliefs and systems are validated by the
religious practice and the religious ideas.
The women are found to be dominated and subjugated in many walks of their lives,
and many factors contribute in this form of exploitation. One of the major factor contributing
to the existing gender discrimination practices, is education. The denial to partake in the
education system, made to the women, is perceived as one of the major factor contributing to
the forms of subjugation. As the women are denied of education, therefore they lack the
consensus and the awareness regarding the discriminations and the subjugations made against
them. Also, the existing political and the social conditionings also contribute to the existing
system and patterns of discrimination and exploitation made against the women. The denial
of women to step into the political domain, the social systems and the social laws, all
contribute to the subjugation of women (Vivar, 2016). Also, the customary laws of marriage
and the religious principles, are the major underlying factors contributing towards the
existing systems of exploitation of women. However, as mentioned before, the female section
of the society experiences discriminations and subjugations in all walks of life. Therefore, the
following essay will essentially talk about the systems and patterns of discriminations against
women at the workplace, home and in the field of sports.
Despite of making huge progress and making a place for themselves, women of
today’s world are continuously faced with discriminations at the workplace. The major
aspects of discrimination that the women of today’s world are faced with, firstly, unequal
payment. Even in the giant business house and in the MNCs, there is system of unequal
payment between the men and the omen of the company or the organization. It is often seen
that a women, doing the same job, committing to the same responsibilities, are paid less than
their male counterpart. In a recent study, it is shown that the major gendered issue in United
States right now is the system or structure of unequal payment in the country. Approximately,
