Introduction
Sociology is a vast area involving diverse topics relating to the welfare of the society.
Society comprises of men and women, who have equal share and say on the resources and
other societal aspects. However, limited research towards the gender roles gives rise to
questions regarding the societal roles and responsibilities of men and women (Haugh &
Talwar, 2016). Consideration of articles on Amazon and Super Women enhances the scope
an arena of the subject matter of gender stereoypes in case of women. Therefore, the main
argument of the assignment would cater to the portrayal of women on bigger platforms.
Based on this, the thesis statement of the assignment would be to shed light on the concept of
Wonder Women in terms of women empowerment.
Discussion
The first article is about the reality and myth regarding The Amazon Women. The
interrogation proposed in the name of the article, through doubts and hesitations contradicts
the aspect women empowerment. On the other hand, the characteristics of Amazonian
princess empowers the women, who are otherwise characterized as “soft, gentle and docile”.
Portrayal of the women character as “fierce as her origins” shuns the traditional stereotypical
notions related to the characteristics of women (Smithsonianmag.com, 2019). On the
contrary, “cartoon eye candy” relates with the notion of women regarding the entrapment
within the boundaries. As a matter of specification, the concept of Wonder Women breaks the
stereotypical notions related to the women since the ancient history, where the society was
ruled by patriarchy. This nullifies the question of men being afraid.
The phrases “fierce as her origins” itself relates to women empowerment, taking the
standard to superwomen. However, such characters have been thought of only as fictional,

adding value to the concept being a myth. On the contrary, plans regarding resurrection of
Wonder Women in the movies is an initiative of transforming the myth into reality.
As per the revelations of Smithsonianmag.com, (2019), historicians were particularly
interested in establishing links with the ancient history to the concept of wonder women. The
issue of proving the existence of Amazon has undergone much debates. It was in the era of
1861, when Johan proved that wonder women was a fact. This was against the notions of
humanity, which entrapped women into the shackles of patriarchy. For Johann, women
Goddess were insignificant towards the power of men. This can be considered as a kind of
negation towards the Creation, which initiates from the females.
In case of the second article, all the confusions are cleared upon the return of the
wonder women. However, mention of the utopian fiction again turns the concept into a myth.
Evidence brought in by suffragists nullifies the myth, adding to the matriarchal power.
According to the manuscripts of Elizabeth Cady Stanton, women supremacy prevailed for
many centuries. Long duration brings into the discussion the aspect of male suppression
(Newyorker.com. 2019). Literary masterpieces are the evidences, which adds to the female
supremacy. Examples are The Masses, The Women Rebel, The Women’s Liberated Journal
among others (Kestner, 2017).
Conclusion
Researching on these literary pieces, I gained effective knowledge about the power,
authority and dominance of the women in ancient history. Scholarly reviews helped me to
gain an insight into the opinions regarding the portrayal of women. I think further research in
this direction would help me to produce my views regarding broadening the thought process
towards women empowerment.
