Geographical United States of America 2022_1

New York is one of the most populated states in the United States of America having a
population of 19.49 million as per the year 2019. The city is situated on the Eastern coast of the
country. The satellite map of the city is given in figure 1 below;

Physical Context
On the physical context of this city, we will discuss the vegetation of this state, landforms and
local geology.
Vegetation cover in New York
The forests in this state are a mixture of coniferous and deciduous species. The most common
trees in this state include the spruce, hemlock and pine as the softwood. Some common
hardwood includes maple, yellow birch, beech, oak and hickory. Most of the flowering species in

this state are found in the dry forest floor including the violets, gentians, bellworts, bellflowers,
hepaticas, trout lily and Soloman's seal (Handy, 210). The vegetation cover is not equally
distributed in this state as there are some parts which has more vegetation covers than other
parts. This distribution can be illustrated in the following map;

Local Geology
Most of the geology in this state is made up of ancient Precambrian crystalline basement rocks.
These form the Adirondack Mountains as well as the bedrock of most part of this state. These
rocks are deformed during the evens of mountain building (McConnell, 110). Fewer rocks were
deposited as Mesozoic of some kilometers were eroded into Atlantic plain even though
sedimentary and volcanic rocks in Newark. The distribution of sedimentary and different rocks
in this state can be illustrated in the following diagram;
