Dissertation Research Methodology
Common methodological approaches widely adopted include Questionnaires,
observations, Interviews, or documentary analysis.
i. Documentary analysis
The documentary analysis includes the gathering of evidence from current records. There
is no need to conduct interviews, assign questionnaires or behavioral assessment. The
documentary study is the primary method for researchers to collect details on their
research topics, but it may still be a powerful resource for contemporary social science.
Documents are measurable content through which information or concepts have been
registered ("Research Methodology and Ethics" 2017). Papers published or created on
paper, such as journal articles, official decision documents, leaflets and notes about
sessions are considered.
ii. Questionnaire
When the planned research query allows you to gather uniform (and thus comparable)
details from a variety of participants, then questionnaires might be the right tool to use.
Questionnaires would be used to gather both quantitative and qualitative results, but you
may not be expected to provide the degree of specificity in the qualitative answers to the
questionnaire that you would have provided in the interview. Questionnaires are
especially well adapted for analysis that aims to assess those metrics for a community of
citizens or to allow connections between individual groups ("Research Methodology and
Ethics" 2017).
iii. Observations
Observations can be part of either quantitative or qualitative studies. For example, if an
investigator wishes to assess if the addition of a highway sign creates a correlation to the
number of cars accelerating at a hazardous curve, he or she might sit next to the curve
and look at the number of cars which do and do not accelerate. There are a variety of
possible legal issues that can emerge from an empirical analysis (Loots & Charrett 2019).

Will the individuals being observed know they're under observation? Will they give their
consent to this? If any participants are uncomfortable with being watched, is it feasible
to' delete' them from analysis whilst also studying others?
iv. Interviews
An interview may be conceived of as a directed dialogue between a researcher (you) and
an informant'). The degree of organization of the interview can differ, but interviewers
typically adopt a quasi-structured model (Bogatkina, et al. 2018). This ensures that the
interviewer must create a roadmap to the subjects that he or she will like to discuss in the
discussion, and might also compose a set of questions to pose (Bogatkina, Eremin, &
2020).
These approaches seem to align with my research plans, given I have adopted a
qualitative research approach with most of the data being obtained through a survey by
questionnaire from gas and oil companies in the United Kingdom. The survey was pilot
tested and the findings of the pilot analysis have been used to evaluate the dataset. The
methodology was then used to carry out a broad sample of oil and gas production chain
organizations. The questionnaire was distributed by mail as it was sent straight to the
selected organizations. This study has embraced a mail survey since it is simple and
effective to conduct. The mail questionnaire often has the benefit of meeting very busy
managers and a wide range of participants within a brief time. The CEOs of the oil and
gas firms have been the main participants to this study; as CEOs are people with both the
broadest experience and expertise inside the organization to contribute to all facets of the
questionnaire. Furthermore, sustainability adoption is perceived to be a strategic
obligation and even CEOs are better positioned to provide for its application in their
businesses. The collected data were evaluated using the Statistical Package for Social
Science (SPSS) program.
