This article provides an overview of Global Environmental Protection (GEP), including its establishment, importance, and responses. It discusses the role of law in addressing global threats to the environment, Australia's responses to international initiatives for GEP, and barriers to achieving an international response. The article also highlights the role of nation-states, the United Nations, international instruments, courts and conferences, intergovernmental organizations, non-governmental organizations, the media, and the federal structure in Australia in promoting GEP. Contemporary issues concerning GEP, such as conflicts between resource demand and GEP, are also addressed.
