INTRODUCTION
Innovation can be defined as the development of a new offering with the sole motive of
meeting a market demand or closing the market gap (Schaltegger, Hansen and Lüdeke-Freund,
2016). It has become a necessity for each and every organisation in the modern era. In this
regard, many organisations are adopting sustainable practices as a measure of facilitating
innovation in an eco friendly manner within the premises of company.The present project
explores innovation and sustainability as evident within the confines of Centrica Plc. It is a
multinational firm engaged in development and provision of energy and associated facilities. It is
headquartered in Windsor, UK (Who We Are, 2020). The primary activity for this firm is supply
of electricity as well as gas to people and companies within 3 nations mainly, namely, UK,
Ireland and North America. The report is categorised into 2 sections (Who We Are, 2020). The
first section consists of a reflective account based on module learning. The second section
constitutes introduction to company and its sustainability offerings together with literature
review upon sustainable practices adopted by the organisation. The sustainability stakeholders
and benchmark are also included along with recommendations for the supervisors. Lastly, diary
notes of seminars are included.

Centrica PLC is recognised as being one amongst the largest gas supply organisations
supplying offering to the residents within the confines of UK. Further, it is acknowledged as
being one amongst the largest electricity supply corporations. The entity has BordGáis Energy in
the confines of Ireland. Further, the concerned company is engaged in provision of household
services like plumbing and many more. It shares listing on London Stock Exchange and also a
place upon Financial Times Stock Exchange 100 Index. Over the course of time, this entity has
gained massive appreciation from parties such as government, customers, society, local
authorities and community for the initiatives it takes for the upliftment of people and
preservation of environment (Sustainability. Our Approach, 2020). By incorporating innovation

and sustainability within the organisation, a company seeks to attract and appeal to a large base
of audience, thereby retaining them for a long period of time in future context (Sustainability.
Our Approach, 2020). Thus, looking upon this, Centrica PLC adopts a sustainability approach by
incorporating sustainability as an element of the organisational culture. In the year 2014,
Centrica established Ignite Social Enterprise which was an impact fund of £10m that made
investments within the energy related social entities functioning within the confines of United
Kingdom that aim to deliver social as well as commercial results. During the year 2017, Ignite
became a significant part of the then newly launched Centrica Innovations.
Section #3 Relevant Literature
Electric supply and gas industry is changing with the passing time in order to bring
sustainability effectively which leads to the success of the business accordingly (Engert, Rauter
and Baumgartner, 2016). It is highly important for leader of the Centrica Plc to focus on the
latest technology at marketplace in order to bring highest opportunities for them that leads to
enhancement of businesses success. Here, the respected company that is Centrica Plc must make
use of recycling programmes in the company effectively.
Changing climate along with the requirement renewable sources has ultimately created
concern among utility companies (Engert, Rauter and Baumgartner, 2016). By effectively
emphasising on this, it can be said that it simply develops opportunity for Centrica Plc which
ultimately open ups opportunity for the respective company and supports them in competitive
edge in rightful manner.
The business models that are being used by business association from the long time are
now getting challenged with the latest technologies (Schaltegger, Hansen and Lüdeke-Freund,
2016). These latest technologies are highly associated with the innovative approaches that
ultimately help them out in working according to environmental concern and making use of the
available resources in such a manner that leads to attainment of organisational success (Engert,
Rauter and Baumgartner, 2016). These challenges are mainly determined as the driving factors
for Centrica PLC as it places significant contribution in the direction of environmental interest.
Sustainability is determined as the effective practice or initiative taken by the company
for improving their business position at marketplace. This respective term is also concerned with
the lucrative practice that ensures that business activities executed at marketplace are not
affecting the environment in any manner (Tukker and et. al., 2017). This simply shows that
