The Getty Center is an operational building under the Getty Museum located in the
United States of America. Getty Center is famous for its remarkable constructional design,
picturesque lawns and a bird’s eye view of the prepossessing city of Los Angeles. Since
1997, Getty Center has been open to public visitations and at present, it holds the remarkable
record of bringing in two million visitors in a year. The Getty Center consists of beauteous
and decorative paintings of European, Asian and African origin, dating back to the period of
Renaissance ("The Getty" 2017). This essay outlines the fact to attempt a detailed discussion
about the paintings engraved in the North, South, East and West Pavilion of the Getty Center
in USA.
The North Pavilion at the Getty Center is adorned with paintings related to the
medieval period and the span revolves around the revitalization of classical based knowledge
in Europe. Renaissance is the focus in the North Pavilion. The Christ in Majesty is the most
distinguished painting of the North Pavilion. In addition to this, the North Pavilion holds the
credit of awing the guests with splendid carvings such as Alessandro Vittoria’s
Mercury, Tiziano Aspetti’s Male Nude, Cupid, Pan by Federico Zuccaro and others ("North
Pavilion Reopens" 2017). Undoubtedly, the finesse and polish of the sculptures and paintings
in the North Pavilion are outstanding and thought provoking.
The East Pavilion at the Getty Center is ornamented with paintings, influenced by the
traditions of Netherlands, Belgium, Spain and France. In addition to this, exquisite carvings
and art materials of Italian origin are kept for public display in the East Pavilion. The
paintings in the East Pavilion show fewer inclinations towards classicism unlike the North
Pavilion. The paintings showcased in the East Pavilion are found to be originated in the
period of sixteenth to eighteenth century (Ytterberg 2013). Like the North Pavilion, sculptural
carvings also garnish the interiors of the East Pavilion. Art and sculpture enthusiasts find the

Farewell of Telemachus and Eucharis by Jacques-Louis David are two beautiful pieces of
antique paintings kept in the South Pavilion, which in fact never fails to mesmerize the

The West Pavilion at the Getty Center is characterized by paintings crafted by artists,
who were visibly influenced by the wave of Romantic and Neoclassical movement
(Lessenich 2012).The West Pavilion houses paintings dating back to the era of the nineteenth
century. The mentionable artifacts in the West Pavilion are Leonardo and the Art of
Sculpture: Inspiration and Invention, bronze vessels by many famous sculptors and the
engaging painting of the Portrait of Jeanne Kéfer and Van Gogh’s Irises. Recently, there has
been reports that the West Pavilion is about to undergo renovations and refurbishment
("North Pavilion Reopens" 2017). Other intriguing paintings and carvings are soon to join
the artwork representation of the West Pavilion.
Therefore, from the above analysis, it can be concluded that Getty Center is indeed a

centers in the world can match the worldwide appeal and magnetism of the renowned Getty
Center in America.
