INTRODUCTION The various regulations being established by the government affects the operations of various social media websites like Facebook, Instagram, twitter etc. One of the most widely known regulation being established on social media websites under IT act, 2000 is to develop an effective system for maintaining database and record of the people. Besides this, another rule being established by the government for social media websites is to frequently update their data security for avoiding hacking and to ensure privacy of people. The main aim of this report is to study the impact of various regulations on social media websites as well as effect on the various firms. MAIN BODY Due to the establishment of wide range of rules as well as regulations by the government of UK, it has become difficult for large number of social websites like Facebook, Instagram, twitter to operate. Like according to the information technology act, 2000 under the provision of section 79, the UK government has established the rule for online platform to establish an online system for effectively maintaining database of people using their websites. These social media websites are strictly advised to keep a record of the user name as well as login ids of the people in order to avoid hacking. This has become a risks for these websites as it is highly complicated to maintain the precise database of such large people (Yu, Shen and Min, 2019). Another rule which has been established by the UK government on the operations of social media under ISO 27001 is updating their data security as well as personal information. The government has posed the strict rules on social media to strictly monitor the privacy of people using these social websites. This has impacted these websites to a great extent as they now face challenge to design more effective privacy system (Liu, 2016). These rules also have a great impact on various firms and the most potential impact is on the IT department of firms. The firms are now facing the challenges to provide an effective platform to customers fro ensuring their privacy. The government regulation of updating privacy has influenced organizations in such a way that they are bound to innovate their technology and privacy setup (Park and et.al.,2016).
