INTRODUCTION
Global Sustainable tourism development is the baseline and the standard that is for to
sustain and develop the tourism and travel. It stats the visiting places for the tourist that has the
positive impact on the growth of the environment (Amerta, 2018). Tourism industry has the
huge impact on the development of the society as emphasis the culture, social system and also
affects the nature as well. This report is based on the TUI group that is an Anglo multinational
travel and tourism company of German. This reports includes the adverse impacts of travel and
tourism that drives the need and sustainable tourism development and the concepts of sustainable
tourism. Furthermore, includes the key principles underpinning the development process and the
role of stakeholders in global sustainable business.
TASK 1
P1) Assess the adverse impacts of travel and tourism that have driven the need of sustainable
tourism development.
Tourism imparts the enhancement of economy as this sector provides employment to a
lot of people and generate a lot of opportunities in the market. It drives the lot of adverse impact
in the environment that are as defined as:
Environmental Effects of tourism:
There are a lot of places for tour and travel that has direct impact on the life and economy
of the country. It is the phenomenon that is more important for the country as it brings a lot of
burden to develop and maintain the cost that is engaged to manage the tourism. To develop more
tourism the land must be very much cleared and has hotels and wide roads as well. Animal
habitats also gets affected by this process as a lot of land will be consumed by the hotels and
buildings (Edgell, 2019). Thus animal get affected and they are in more trouble while protecting
their food and territory. There are several other problems as well like disposal of water that
decreases the water level of the earth and it degrade the environment. The large wastage has
been produced that is dumped directly into the sea that has negative impact on the animals that
live in marine. Thus to brings the positive impact in the environment tourism plays vital role and
maintain sustainability within the environment. After the evaluation of adverse impact
government also contributes a lot to save the environment and protects and sustain the tourism
from all the different alternatives.

Pressure on natural resources:
Utilisation of natural resources is very much important and generate more problems as
from the tourism industry. As like water and electricity that has been used by the tourist on a
wider platform and save the natural resources and reduce, reuse the different resources. There is
more problem as well as like soil erosion that the new construction and development of new
buildings somehow reduces the purity of soil (Higgins-Desbiolles, 2018). To develop and
maintain government takes some strict rules and policies to save the environment and maintain
sustainability within the tourism.
P2) Discuss the conceptual development of sustainable tourism
Sustainable tourism maintains the balance between the social and cultural aspects by
understanding the environmental and economic factors of the country. It helps to protect and
conserves the biodiversity that includes plants and animals. It reflects a lot of effort to save and
maintain the balance behaviour to attain the resources for the future generation as well. It could
be possible that if everyone is using the resource as same how all use them now then it is very
hard to save the resources for the future period of time. There are different activities that spoils
the environment on larger manner as like plastic consumption, cutting of trees, degradation and
many other as well. On the other hand, tourism maintains the sustainability by contributing
maximum efforts to the environment and save the biodiversity and enhance the economic of t he
country as well.
It provides the betterment and support to the economy and the environment by protecting
the natural habitats. The revenues that has been generated from the visitors that is invested to
safe the environment. Thus sustainable tourism is most needed as per the social aspects as well
as it provide the employment as well. It is the best source of income for the regional sector as it
also develops the overall image of the particular region. It contribute its best to the environment
and reduces the carbon footprints and consumption of carbon dioxide to save the environment
from the pollution.

There are some of the underpinning that develops the sustainable tourism and these
principles are as defined below as:
Using resources sustainably:
It is most necessary for all the companies to safe the environment from the pollution and
secure the long time safety and it also help the business to gain the long time success in the
market. In context of TUI group, they are the leading company that operates their business in
tourism and operates their works while conserving the atmosphere (Kasemsap, 2018). They use
the strategy as “Our Better Holidays, Better world” with that maintains the sustainability within
the business and works with four pillars that is wider operations, consumers, wider customer
base and value chain.
Reducing over consumption and waste:
Sustainable tourism has that potential to use scarcity of resources to protect the
environment from different from different negative impacts (TUI Group, 2020). While protecting
the environment TUI group avoids the cost that restricts the quality and conservation of the
environment. Company puts the best efforts to save the environment and enhances the potential
of conserve the resources.
Maintaining biodiversity:
Maintaining biodiversity is relates with the conservation of natural, social and cultural
aspects that is important to governs the long term sustainability in the tourism industry
(Sustainable Tourism, 2020). By following this aspect TUI group is able make a good image in
front of the customers and spread much awareness about the environment protection.
Supporting local economies:
Tourism is very much important as it enhances the economy and conserve the
environment and imparts more values. TUI group supports the environment and avoid and
restricts the environment from the damage.

Stakeholder are those that contributes in the success failure of the business these are those
individual and groups that helps the organisation to achieve their target in an effective manner.
They helps to promote the business on larger level and also helps to develops the roads, airports
and railway stations as well. There are a lot of stakeholder that invested in travel and tourism
industry and also contributes in decision-making process as well (Liu, 2018). There are some key
roles of key stakeholder in global sustainable tourism that are as follows as:
National governments:
National government plays important role to maintain the sustainability within the
environment as per demand of the tourist. They contribute in the development of nation and
helps to made the different policies. TUI group performs different strategies and set the agenda
to attracts the large number of tourist. There roles is to develop roads and stations that attracts
and convenience the customers that promote local and international destinations.
Local people:
Local people plays important role to develop the tourism as they have different belief and
values that adds even more effectiveness to the tourist destinations. Stakeholder are measure
source of income and they contributes to measure growth and development. They contributes to
develop the strategies to satisfy the value and needs of large number of people.
Tourist establishments and enterprises:
Stakeholder plays important role in development of tourism industry in effective manner
as like train, buses and airlines and also provides differ facilities of food and beverages as well.
There are some agencies that helps and contributes to enhance the tourism even more. They
provides different services to satisfies the need and demand of the customers by providing
different facilities (Nepal, 2019).

Stakeholders are important for the company as they contributes in effective decision
making process. In context of tourism industry, stakeholders contributes in various manner that
are as follows:

In the competitive era, tourism industry attracts and grab the attention of large number of
people by there services and provide adequate wages and salary as well. Government and tourist
investors make different strategies and tactics to serve the environment in effective manner. For
example, Portugal tourism also contributes to generate more revenues and provide employment
to the people (Saarinen, 2019). They ensures that tourism contributes positively to sustains thus
government launch the strategies called Tourism strategy 2027 to estimate the result for the
upcoming decade. Stakeholder helps to promote the business and develop more balanced and
concentrates the environment to address the values of local regions.
Focus on competitiveness:
Stakeholders measures the advancement by helping the company to gain the competitive
advantages. As like local regions or their peoples enhance the tourist to visit again and again.
Company collaborates with different stakeholders and accomplish the desire of the customers.
