Impact of Globalization on Health
Globalization is considered to be the process of making interactions with the worldwide
business, technology, information, people and information that can enhance the economy
(Beck, 2018). Globalization benefits the society and the nation as a whole through social and
economic globalization. Globalization make the increase in the knowledge and resources that
fosters the information and allows the free trade. It has affected the global health problems in
a significant way and causes the emergence of several diseases. Also, globalization cures the
global health problems (Hirst, et al., 2015). Here, the essay has discussed the globalization
and the way it causes and cures the global health problems. The essay has been supported
with the relevant theories of globalization that help in the determination of effect on the
health problems.
Globalization has been an important aspect of the nation that brings productivity to the
economy of the nation. It has brought a positive impact on the global health as it brings
several kinds of technology and the resources that can be helpful in the curing of health of the
individual (Rinella & Charlton, 2016). This can be understood from the liberalism theory of
globalization which states that globalization provides the liberalization for the technological
advancements, economic welfare and the political liberty. Theory state that liberal economy
of the nation are drivers of economic growth (Hovden & Keene, 2016). Particularly, this
economic growth has led to increase in the opportunity to improve the health due to various
equipment which are the result of the technological advances and the information exchanges
within the entire world.
Also, this can be seen from the fact that due to the liberal economic, technological and the
infrastructural changes has led to the more treatment options for the people and deal with the
specific health due issue due to the tendency of the global interactions and widely sharing of
the information (Forster, et al., 2019). Moreover, globalization has been making a
tremendous growth in the health outcomes. Due to the fast sharing of information due the
rapid advancement in the technology, there is an increase in the economic structure of the
nation as the rural people can get access of the communication technology that can make the
people aware of the health problems in an easier way.
Globalization affects the economic growth and the overall development of the nation through
the information and knowledge transfer and increases the health status through the free trade.

Additionally, technology leads to increase in knowledge and access of the data that can make
the people aware of the diseases and the health problems (Soper & Emmelin, 2016). Good
health is regarded as the main goal of the nation in which the ongoing communication and
knowledge enhancement criteria can make the country advanced. This can enable the nation
to address the health issue in more convenient way.
Thus, the application of the liberalism theory of globalization, it can be observed that due to
the liberal exchange of information, it has been made easier for the people to determine the
health determinants which are the major causes of the health services (Turner & Holton,
2015). Due to the free flow of information into the cross borders of the nation, information
can be easily be manipulated and shared across the nation. The medical expertise has also
increased due to the rapid increase in the globalization as the knowledge of the medical
professionals has increased and the professionals have been providing quality of care to the
people and ultimately cures the global health problems.
Also, there is one more theory called constructivism theory of globalization that states that
the social world is constructed with the particular symbols, images or the interpretation that
determine the ways to be adopted through the social interaction and creating a social
interaction with the rest of the world (Mingst, et al., 2018). It emphasises on the
communicative practices that can make the power relationships in the process of
globalization. Thus, as per theory, social interactions can make the effective contribution in
the public health as the people have been addressing the health issues more easily due to the
expression of the idea. These social interactions have also enabled in the communication of
the ideas the relevant information that can ensure in the health interest of the individual.
Thus, it can be understood that the public health has improved due to the social
constructivism that particularly serves the purposes and welfare of the people (Haas, 2015).
Globalization can ensure in the transferring of the relevant information that can make the
people more knowledgeable about the several kinds of diseases that can add to the efficiency
of the people to create an understanding of the health related concerns of the global world and
also addressing the health concerns in such a way that it makes the person healthy.
As globalization allows the nations to interact and share useful information, it has given an
advantage to the nations to globally spread the awareness of the health related concerns and
also taking the help of the wellness programs internationally making the people make an
understanding of the different health issues in order to improve in a significant way (Al‐

Particularly, social interactions that create a culture and the lifestyle of the individual brings a
positive impact on the health of the person due to the social-cultural interaction of the person.
Particularly, health related policies of the government have enabled in the good health and
the economic development of the nation due to globalization. It has also influenced the
population health because of the partnerships being made with the private sector which has
elaborated the knowledge and resources that can add to the health of the public when the
partnerships are made for the increasing the skills and capabilities of the people that can add
to the knowledge of health related with the health-related concerns (Khoo, 2019). Further,
transfer of knowledge through the globalized education can make the people responsible
towards the social issues and thereby they can address the health issue more easily.
Further, another globalization theory can be seen such as theory of post modernism that
enables the nation to make the further development and enhancing universalism. After the
modernization, postmodernism theory elaborates the further development of the future that
can make the nation developed (Homer, 2018). This can be helpful in the understanding of
the fact that globalization can be universalism and focuses on the plurality that can be helpful
in the addressing of the health-related concerns globally. Due to the globalization, people
have become advanced and also have become highly knowledgeable about the causes and
effects of the diseases and also treatment plans that can make the people more aware of the
public health. As the theory focus on the future development, it can be observed that
globalization can make the advancements into the technology making a developed nation that
addresses the social concerns and also makes the medical association advanced (Cvetkovich,
2018). This can help in the quality treatment of the patients and curing the global health
problems. This can be seen from the fact that global health can be addressed through the
globalization technique that can provide the communication and interactive services to the
people.
Globalization can cause the risk of health of the individual and thereby bringing a negative
impact on the health. Due to the growth of business worldwide which are harmful for the
health of the individual can affect the global health to a larger extent (Holm-Hadulla &
Koutsoukou-Argyraki, 2015). Spread of tobacco and alcohol has led to the wide risk to the
health and often causes various kinds of diseases. Further, due to the globalization, there is
rapid increase in the use of internet and communication tools which has caused issues for the

health of people who are addicted to the use internet especially young people. There are
numerous downsides of globalization that leads to the communicable and non-communicable
diseases that leads to the emerging infectious diseases. In the developing nations, there are
increasing noncommunicable diseases as globalization changes the lifestyle of the people.
Obesity, hypertension and diabetes are the common health diseases that can affect the health
of the nation.
Further, due the emergence of postmodernism theory of globalization, it can be observed that
the future developments of the nation have led to the increase in the information technology
and the technical advances that has made people more reliant on the online mediums which is
the major reason for the growing problems (Homer, 2018). Due to the new ways of doing
business through the use of the tools and the techniques that can reduce the lifestyle diseases
that can affect the health of the people. Due to globalization and the increase in the future
advancements, it has made people highly dependent on the modernized view that can make
the people more reliable on the technologies and the use of internet leading to several kinds
of health issues and the spread of various diseases internationally. Also, due to the increase in
the infrastructure development, it has led to the increase in pollution which has severely
affected the global health problems making people ill. Globalization depends upon the
educational level, socioeconomic status and location that can make the changes in the
population health determinants that can make the influence on the public health (Kooienga &
Carryer, 2015).
Apart from this, theory of liberalization has clearly stated that globalization allows the free
interactions and free trade of the business that can lead to the health issues and has
specifically affected the global health of women due to the urbanization and migration that
has affected the health due to the changing patterns of employment (Hanefeld, 2018). As
globalization has the primary motive of privatization of the organization that can interact with
the health and the casual associations with the international firms. Besides, depression is
another important determinant that can be observed to be caused into the people. As the
businessmen allowing the international trade of goods and making financial investments,
failure to pay the debts has led to the increased prevalence of anxiety and depression that can
cause the effect on the health problems and often leading to death.
Moreover, due to the free trade in the international markets at lower cost with the processed
food has led to a disease called obesity and has severely impacted the health of the people.

This can be understood from the fact that globalization has encouraged the imports and
exports in which free trade of the food products has led to the dangerous diseases harming the
health of the people. Additionally, as the jobs has been globalized to a larger extent, it has
been noted that people traveling to other countries for the employment or making holidays
has led to the communicable diseases (Wilson, et al., 2016). Due to the globalization, it has
led to the increased the emergence of the various kinds of the diseases due to the financial
instability. Besides, reduced environmental concerns have led to the poor health of the nation
leading to the global health problems. Globalization has led to the increased use of the
international information that has been undertaken through the use of information technology
that leads to the spread of the irrelevant information that can lead to reduced outcomes for the
patients.
By understanding the theory of constructivism, it can be noted that globalization can led to
the increased social interactions that can lead to spread of communicable diseases (Mingst, et
al., 2018). This can be seen from the fact that the people who travel in the other countries
through the transport mediums have the risk of spreading the diseases such as HIV/AIDS
being dispersed in the remote areas of the globe (Collins, 2015). Also, the social interactions
have increased the tendency to cause a negative effect on the health and the constructivist
behaviour can lead to the health problem when the people have conflicts.
As globalization has allowed the free trade of the goods, it can be observed that
pharmaceutical companies have been suffering from the various issues due to the export of
the medical products. This includes the imports of the drugs and alcohol that can cause the
health issues of the people that can cause the various diseases (Hirst, et al., 2015).
Globalization has highly threatened the human life and due to which there is prevalence of
various diseases. Due to the spread of the infectious diseases the people have been affected
by the globalization of the products. There is tendency of the spreading of the information
that can cause the diseases due to the communication systems and the high risk of
transmission of pathogens. Application of the liberalism theory of globalization can be
applied when realizing the effects of information technology and the business interactions
that can lead to the development of health problems for the people.
Thus, it can be concluded that globalization can affect the health of the people and at the
same time it can cure the global health problems. This can better be understood by the
application of the theories of globalization that elaborate that information technology, free

trade and the exchange of information that has facilitated the required information that can be
helpful in the healthcare sector. Moreover, globalization can cause the increase in the health
problems. This requires the steps to be undertaken for making the equitable globalization.
This requires the effective leadership that can address the several issues and cause harm to
the health. Further, business must allow the balanced trade that can be helpful in the
balancing of the trade deficit and trade and trade surplus and somehow can reduce the health
issues caused as a result of the proper financial stability. Enforcement of the rules for the
concerned industries that deal imports and exports of food products can ensure the safety of
the food products and can facilitate in the quality of the products leading to reduction in the
global health issues.
