business when the disaster recovery is taken care by the agencies of the government.
Role of Government at Disaster Recovery at a Personal Level and Business Level
Disaster recovery refers to the security planning that focuses on protection at a
personal level or organizational level from the significant negative impacts of an event. The
agencies of the government seem to play a vital role during disasters (Olshansky et al., 2012).
The immediate after math of any disaster is that the federal assistance becomes available after
a formal request from the state governor. The impact of the fabricated event or natural
disaster qualifies a region as disaster prone. The declaration made by the president initiates
the efforts of Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). FEMA provides a quick
response to the disaster through immediate relief and aid known as the disaster response
phase. Once this phase gets over, there is initiation of the recovery phase that comes as
additional sources.
However, when there is a declaration of an emergency situation, the President sends
additional funds to the state and local for protecting the property or saving life. The assistance
provided in a declared emergency however does not exceed five million dollars (Phillips,
2015). In declaration of major disaster, role of FEMA becomes vital that engage the service

of two agencies, one corporation, one commission, twelve federal departments and one
authority.
The types of assistance provided by a state governor include public assistance,
individual assistance, and matching of mitigation funds. However, the individual assistance
provided for the individuals, businesses and farmers takes the form of emergency housing,
grants, loans, tax relief and assistance for the unemployment (McEntire, 2014). Public
assistance refers to the funds for local communities, states and nonprofit groups for restoring
facilities and public systems. The mitigation funds refer to the state and local communities
that reduces the vulnerability of the area to any kind of hazard.
The nature of relief necessary in an emergency situation depends on the direct goal of
people affected. Therefore, their immediate requirement after the event includes food,
communication and rescue. However, after the passage of the immediate disaster the focus
however shifts to the process of rebuilding or recovery. The stage of recovery might take
years or months for completion. Disaster affects areas like community, infrastructure,
regional and state services (Chang & Rose, 2012). Grants and federal loans can help
enormously during the stage of recovery. Sometimes, the recovery cost might be beyond the
capabilities the state and local governments when it comes to repair public facilities and
business, repair bridges and roads, clear debris and help the communities in rebuilding
bridges and roads.
Sacrifices Businesses Make When Recovery Process Is a Government Agency
Responsibility
The government and its agencies can be considered as friend of the business who
provides, advisory, financial and other services to the business community especially when
hit by a disaster and is in its state of recovery (Busch & Givens, 2013). While aiding to

recover the business to its initial level the government might impose certain regulation, taxes
and restrictive laws in order to prevent a major damage from further occurrence. The
restrictive laws imposed might sometimes become challenging for the business as they might
pose certain restrictions on achieving the specific goals business goals of the company. Thus,
company might sacrifice in terms of short-term losses
