INTRODUCTION Business functions involves those activities which are essential for running business. These are required in every organization irrespective of size as they are important to achieve the desired goals. In this report, Tesco is taken as an organization, which is the largest British retailer, headquartered in UK. This report includes roles of different organizational functional units and it also includes the skills required to a successful undergraduate student. Roles of different functional units There are various departments in an organization and some of them are discussed below. Marketing:This department carries out the major role which is selling the product (Kirova, 2017). It involves various roles such as conducting the market research, identify the changing market trend and analysing the needs and preferences of the customers, branding and promoting the business etc. Tesco has an efficient team working on increasing the sales of its products. Finance:It provides assistance to every department as it provides budgets to eth departments within which it has to execute their activities for a specific period (Finn and et.al, 2018). It also analyses the costing of the new project and helps in planning and setting prices of the product. The finance team of Tesco is highly professional and expert in this field which helps in effective cost management. Human resource:The human resource department is mainly responsible for managing people in the organization. The role of HR is to recruit and train new employees, complying the employment laws. One of its crucial role is to motivate the employees towards work and creating a positive working environment in the workplace (Huemann, Keegan and Turner, 2018). The HR department of Tesco is very efficient in handling the workplace which is because of proper interaction. Operation:This department works on the creation of product and services. Its main role is to manage the production process from raw material to finished product and the final delivery of the same to the end consumers (Heizer, 2016). It helps in ensuring that products are effectively managed and proper inventory is maintained. Tesco has a well organized and structured process system which ensures effective and efficient functioning (Gartenstein, 2019). The interrelationship between various department is very important as each department is dependent on another department to carry out its function effectively. For instance, marketing department after developing new product plan, communicates with operation department to produce that product as per the requirement. In the same way, other departments are also interconnected and requires to work together. Skills and techniques to be a successful undergraduate student The major skills required to be in a undergraduate student in order to achieve success are stated below (Farrington, 2019). Numerical skills Effective communication skills CONCLUSION From the above it can be summarized that the different roles played by the different departments in an organization is very crucial in order to achieve the desired objectives. Any of these functions can be eliminated as they are all together helps in accomplishing success.
