1.Summarize the thesis and the key ideas of the essay in no more than two sentences.
Ans – In the essay named “Scaring Us Senseless”, the author of the essay, N.N. Taleb has
talked about the terrors that sudden terrorist activities are known to cause among the human
beings. The author in the essay has provided an analysis of the reasons why terrorism and
other criminal activities scare the human beings so much ( Martin, 2017). This forms the
thesis as well as the summary of the key issues that the author has presented in the essay
itself.
2. According to Taleb, are human beings essentially rational or emotional creatures
when it comes to avoiding danger? How does this standpoint affect our behaviour?
Ans – As stated by the author N.N. Taleb in the essay, human beings are not wired to react to
the effects of terrorism or other violent acts on the society. This is because the human beings
react emotionally to such acts of violence against humanity. As stated by Martin (2014), this
is because the author says that the humans react to the terroristic activities in two methods –
in the first case, the humans over-react immediately after such terrorist acts take place, as
they are in shock from the sudden outbreaks of violence. In the second case, the humans
under-react to the situation because their memories of the horrific acts of terrorism becomes
vague. The author stated that this ultimately makes them vulnerable to more terroristic
attacks.

3. Why do you think paragraph 11 contains of a one-sentence question?
Ans – Paragraph 11 consists of a one-sentence question because the author through this one
question has explained to the readers about the ways in which Osama Bin Laden continued
the killings of Americans as well as the Europeans even after the incident of September 11th
in the U.S.A. The author tells the readers that most of the terroristic activities have been
caused in the form of hi-jacking planes or bombing the planes as a part of the terroristic
activities of the terrorists (Combs, 2017). It is for this reason the author has used the one-
sentence question.
4. Which point is supported by quotation? Why is this quotation ironic?
Ans – The author has supported the facts of death by automobile accidents with the support
of the statement made by Stalin.
As stated by Martin (2017), the quotation made by Stalin is ironic because Stalin
himself said the more deaths that occurs, the more attention it will grab from the world.
Similarly, these terrorists also focus on mass killinmgs because it will allow them to gain
more attention from the world.
5. What answer does the author offer to the question he poses in paragraph 11? Do you
agree or disagree? Why?
Ans – The author in the essay has provided the readers with the information of the American
and the European tourists by the terrorist activities, I absolutely agree with what the author
has stated in the essay because indeed the fact is true that a lot of deaths are caused by the
terrorist activities in the world. In this context, the fact presented by the author seems to be
absolutely correct (Combs, 2017).

Section – 3
Dishonesty is Sometimes the Best Policy
It is a known fact to all of us that we had been taught from our childhood that honesty
is the best policy. This is because we have been hold that being honest is the best policy that
needs to be followed by the humans so that they could be successful in their lives. However,
there are instances in our lives, when it is said that the dishonesty.
The purpose of this essay is to determine why Dishonesty is sometimes
considered to be the best policy for the humans.
Dishonesty is sometimes considered to be the best policy for the humans because it is
dishonesty which could be used by the human beings to protect themselves from the strangers
and also their personal information of various kinds. This is because giving original
information on the social media sites might not be considered to be very appropriate for the
human beings as it might lead to the, being trapped into various illegal operations by
criminals (McCole, 2017). Similarly, dishonesty cam also help the individuals to keep their
personal information in privacy mode so that the individuals can keep those same criminals
from using the subject’s personal information into some criminal activities which might lead
to that individual being in trouble from such criminals.
It is because of such reasons that dishonesty is considered at times to be helpful to the
society. Dishonesty in these cases can help the individuals to navigate the social medias sites
safely and to keep themselves protected from cyber-crime and other forms of criminal
activities. It is because of all these reasons that it is said that dishonesty is sometimes
considered to be a best policy for the protection of the human beings as it protects the human
beings from the criminal activities (Conelly, 2017).
