1. Project Blog
Green computing is a new technical concept that mainly focuses on developing
computing systems that will have a positive impact on the environment. While it may be
confusing as to how computing is related to the environment, one should understand that
computing has a large impact on the environment with respect to the use of energy, disposable
and non-disposable materials and others. The green computing concept is used to design and
develop new equipments and parts that will increase the energy efficiency of the computing
systems as well as promote the use of reusable and disposable materials for developing the
bodies of computer parts and equipments. Since its inception, the concept of green computing
has also been applied in the field of networking and communication. Green computing in
networking and communication includes network infrastructure, communication system through
wireless networks.
2. Rationale
1. Problem Domain
The main problem that is needs to be addressed in this project is prevention of negative
impact on the project by the computing systems. Most of the computing systems including the
networking and communication system have more or less negative impacts on the environment.
For instance, due to low energy efficiency of a particular device, a huge and unnecessary amount
of electricity is lost while running the device. Again, the waves transmitted through the
environment during a wireless communication process hurt the living beings like birds and trees.

2. Purpose and Justification
The purpose of the project is to develop a green computing system that will be much
more energy efficient and have positive impact on the environment as well.
The system will act as a benchmark and will provide the basis for the future computing
systems that will have less negative impact on the environment.
3. Sponsor or Supervisor Recommendation
This project involves a significant amount of time as well as working with some of the
latest technologies that will incur significant amount of costs. Hence, a sponsor is required to
fund the project from the start till its completion. However, funding will not be an one way effort
as the sponsor can have significant future gain if the developed system works successfully
according to plan and opens a new window of opportunity in the development of green
computing systems.
4. Research Questions
The research questions developed for the project are as follows.
 What are the benefits of green computing in networking and communication
systems?
 What are the main challenges that can be faced during the implementation of
green computing in networking and communication systems?
