1SUPPLY CHAIN MANAGEMENT Justifying the introduction of green strategies The government laws have become strict and use of sustainable environmental practice has become mandatory for all the organization. However, in this case study it can be seen that B & Q, although being a retail organization has implemented green supply chain strategies because some of their products are dependent on resources. Thus, the short-term profitability of the organization will have a long-term impact on the corresponding environment. Thus, it is necessary for the organizations to be a social corporate citizen and identify the products, which are being over used and their long-term impact on the environment. Moreover, it is the responsibility of the organization of creating social and environmental impact. It is essential for the organization to maintain the balance in the co system and therefore, green management strategies have to be implemented. Traceability is one of the factors in green management that will identify methods suitable for protecting the environment and maintain the long-term sustainability of the organization. Moreover, in order to protect the image of the organization, they will have to identify the impact the suppliers and other associates. It is seen that the organizations using long-term environmental policies have been able to increase their profit margin. Moreover, it is a long chain and spreading knowledge and implementing will improve the overall sustainability of the industry. Potential of causing harm Repsolis a Spanish organization and one of the global leaders of energy producers. The organization performs various downstream and upstream activities all over the world. The organization uses vertical integration in its operation and manages all the processes in oil and natural gas sector. Repsol performs all the operations of oil and natural gas organizations and causes lot of harm to the environment (Repsol.energy, 2017). The first is drilling in the ground
2SUPPLY CHAIN MANAGEMENT and ocean for extraction of crude oil, thus pumping of oil out has adverse effect on the environment. Moreover, refining of petroleum will lead to the emission of harmful gases in to the environment. Thus, the release of toxin in to the environment is a harmful effect of the processes ion the organization. The burning of gasoline will produce huge amount of CO2and it contributes in the development of green houses. Thus, this process will affect the overall ecology and increase the level of global warming in the environment (Repsol.energy, 2017). Oil spill is one of the most frequent phenomenons in oil and natural gas organizations and spilling of oil during transportation and drilling will have a large impact on the environment. UpstreamactivitiesinRepsolincludeproduction, explorationofnaturalgas, the organization has its operations in various parts of the world, and these activities have the potential to causing major harm to the environment (Repsol.energy, 2017). The exploration process consists of processes such as drilling in to the ground and oceans for extraction of oil. Thus, these upstream activities are potential threats for the long-term sustainability of the organization. Downstream activities include trading, marketing and distribution of products, oil spill can occur at any time if necessary precautions are not taken (Repsol.energy, 2017). Thus, this could be a potential threat in the downstream activities.
