Individual Reflection
A guest lecturer had been invited in the institution for developing our understanding and
knowledge about the importance of innovation in the culture of the business and other. For
innovation speaker, we were provided with the best of Oman, the founder, and CEO of the
innovation factory, Firas al Musafir. The lecture of the speaker was very influencing and
motivating. He shared with us his experiences of childhood to explain to us the importance
and need of the experimental space where one can perform experiments. He described
himself and told us about his interest in quantum physics since childhood. He told us a story
of his childhood where he made a small rocket for experiment and launched it in his backyard
which exploded. The incident in his backyard and other different incidents told by him made
him realize the importance of proper space for carrying out experiments and innovation ideas.
The innovation factory was an outcome of his thought process for the need for innovation.
We were also motivated about the passion of innovation which helped him reach his present
level of success. He was also working with ITA (Information Technology Authority) 7 year
ago but he had a vision for the development of the space of innovation for everyone where
people can perform researches and develop innovations freely. This spirit in his words also
made us realize the importance of having a vision and the need for innovation development.
In the innovation factory, they provide the researchers with the devices, equipment,
machinery, and freedom for carrying out innovations. By the freedom, the innovation factory
means the freedom of performing the innovation and the freedom in the idea of innovation.
Firas al Musafir put stress on the freedom of innovation idea and expressed that the idea of
innovation is a very personal topic and it may vary from individual to individual and time to
time. The ideas which may have seemed not possible in the earlier time are successfully
running in the present era. The same is the case with the formation of the innovation factory

but today it is also the award-winning the company and contributing in Oman's export
trading.
The working of the innovation factory was explained where they discussed the way their
company works. He stated that any person who has any idea to bring innovation or build
something new can approach to the innovation factory. He told us that many students also
reach out to their company for building projects for them but innovation factory is set up to
support the innovation and that is why they provide all sort of assistance in building, they
teach how to build but doesn't build it for people. The profit sources of innovation factory
were also discussed where we come to know that the innovation factory is a company
registered under the ministry of commerce as a research and development company. The
company earns from heavy clients and provides affordable and free research spaces to the
people. The company has an open lab system to provide for freedom in researches. He also
discussed the cost reduction by him and his fellows for building their company. Hence, the
lecturer explained the topic of importance and process of innovation development with the
reference to the innovation factory.
