The gun control laws in the United States of America operates under a number of federal
and state laws governing the laws of owning a gun in the country. The major laws in the country
affecting the overall gun control take into consideration the minimum age such as The Gun
Control Act of 1968 (GCA) which limits the minimum age to 18 years and the local licenses
needed to keep and carry a gun (Atf.gov). The permit laws regarding the carrying of guns vary
from country to country. The different issues that can be highlighted in this context is the
variance of the laws related to the gun control leads to a major discrepancy in the acceptance of
the laws in the different states (Bloomberg:44).
There are a number of different cons of the gun laws in America as the gun laws in the
country as there are a number of different loopholes in the gun laws in America which enables
the people in the society to own the guns without inhibitions and use them. the slack laws about
the owning of the assault rifles that allow the people to own assault rifles in the country as long
as they are older than 1986 is another issue (Atf.gov). The gun laws should restrict the sale of the
semi assault and the assault weapons as they are too dangerous a weapon to be just present for
someone’s safety. The handguns and rifles are good enough to provide the safety to the normal
Americans in the society as it is backed by an able police force. The February 1st 2018 shooting

at Belmont high school was one of the major incident where 12 year old minor shot a fire are
injuring two people. The Parkland shooting incident was another incident where a mentally
disturbed 19 year old killed 17 people and injured 17 others in a major shooting incident. There
are a number of issues regarding the gun laws and the people being penalized for the slack gun
laws (Kwon et al.: 41-50).
The licensing and the background checks should also be properly managed before
providing the gun. The sales of the gun should be such regulated that every transaction of a
firearm should cone under the jurisdiction of the government with proper records as given under
1968 Gun Controls Act (Atf.gov). Moreover the background check of the children of the family
is also important considering the rise in the teenage violence in the country as specified in Brady
Handgun Violence Prevention Act of 1993 (Spitzer:30). The present gun laws fail because there
are way too many untraceable guns present in the society. The right of the normal people is to be
safe as it is the right of the people with guns to be safe. The presence of a large number of
functional guns in the hands of people just for the safety does not make the situation welcome for
the people who choose not to own the gun and it is their equal right to feel safe in the society.
