Executive Summary
Health and Safety in the health and social care workplace has become an increasing
aspect. Nowadays each and every corporate entity is laying its significant concern over managing
and implementing proper safety and security within its workplace in order to gain the maximum
level of satisfaction from its patients and clients. With regard to this context, the present study
will allow gaining relevant and deep understanding about the crucial aspects of health and social
care safety with the workplace of HSC. It will focus on implementing and undertaking an
effective risk assessment measure in order to identify the occurrence of potential risk within the
workplace along with the steps required to overcome such challenges in order to provide
complete safety to its individual employees along with its concerned patients.

INTRODUCTION
Health and safety is one of the most important and crucial aspects within the workplace.
This aspect tends the company to prevent the occurrence of accident within its organizational
structure and helps to safeguard the interest and harm of its employees and patients. Also, the
health and social care industries are showing a rapid increase in the present scenario and are
highly required to attain strong compliance with the legal and regulatory framework. With this
context, the present report will highlight the crucial aspects of health and social care in the HSC
industry. The report will focus on developing an effective risk assessment strategy to make the
individual of HSC aware about the safety, security and health legislation.

2.1 Significance of risk assessment in informing planning for care of patients/ clients
Risk assessment is a systematic procedure of analysing and examining the extent of risk
which can occur within health and social care (HSC) workplace. It therefore becomes important
for every HSC to clearly identify the major reasons which may give rise to the occurrence of
accidents within its workplace (Munn-Giddings and Winter, 2013). It becomes the crucial
responsibility of the said industry to clearly asses the risk involvement and providing its
information to its staff in order to remain protective. In each and every HSC, the role of risk
assessment is of utmost important. It helps such industries to identify the extent of potential risk
that can take place within its workplace along with determining appropriate and relevant
measures that could be implemented in order to deal with such challenges. With regard to this
context, risk assessment proves to be an effective technique to significantly identify the various
principles related to care planning for individual which helps them to overcome with their major
health issues. By undertaking the risk assessment process, necessary information can be attained
with regard to the critical illness which are causing serious thereat to individual's life (Aveyard,
2014). For example, if a person suffers from mental illness and stress, usually they don't possess
proper understanding and knowledge of such illness and its hazardous impact on person's health.
Therefore, in such cases, relevant and essential information is gathered regarding the health
conditions of that particular person by implementing the risk assessment matrix in order to
render the patient with best care services and facilities. Risk assessment matrix is a tool which

involves various significant areas that needs to be determined in order to identify the occurrence
of potential risk. It also involves rendering the industry with effective protective measure to
overcome the occurrence of such serious risk. This allows the managers of HSC to provide
effective safety and best care facilities to its patients.
Apart from this, the risk assessment technique also allows HSC to gain relevant
information regarding the risk appetite and thereby allowing it to take effective decision for its
care home services (Reeves And et.al., 2011.). The key areas where the risk assessment tool
helps the concerned industry in its planning for care of patients and clients involves the
following aspects-
 The risk assessment technique allows HSC to gain relevant and necessary information
regarding the occurrence of potential risk within its workplace. Further, such information
can be effectively used by its managers in their problem solving and decision making
approach in order to render its patients with impressive solutions to deal and overcome
with such problem.

The policies related to health and safety are crucially based on the legal and regulatory
framework in which it tends to operate its business activities. Therefore, with regard to this
context, the various aspects which are significantly determined and identified under health and
safety policies related to HSC includes the following-
 The occurrence of violence within the workplace is highly required to be overcome in
order to provide essential safety and security to its patients and clients.
 The aspect of prevention must be crucially made from trips and falls.
 Safe, secure and healthy working environment should be provided in order to provide
best services to its patients (Millar and Hall, 2013).
By analysing and identifying all the major aspects of health and safety policies, the
impact of prevention made from trips and falls tends to create a significant effect on the proper
safety within the health and social care workplace. Apart from this, there exist a crucial impact

on the major procedures and policies that are formed for the prevention of falls in practice highly
followed by the care setting arrangements. Such aspects provide the day care home to lay its
significant concern over maintaining proper and well furnished floors and keep them neat and
clean so that its does not result in causing harm to its patients and clients. By strictly and
properly complying to the health and safety policies, HSC are able to deliver best and effective
care home services and allows the patients to properly overcome the major challenges and issues
relating to their respective health (Timmins, 2012). Apart from this, the professionals of health
and social care society focuses on rendering best and premium heath related services to
effectively deal and handle their disease in a very significant way. The reason behind this is that
because of the clean and tidy work atmosphere, health and social care industry is able to attain
maximum level of its patients satisfaction and allows them to completely handle their major
disease and health related challenges in a very significant and appropriate way. In addition to
this, with the use of such preventive and protective measures, the said industry provides the
highest level of safety and security to its clients and patients within its health and social care
workplace (Great Britain. Department of Health, 2012). It also helps the concerned entity to gain
a strong sense of safety and security by its clients and provides them to feel comfortable, relax
and protected within the said workplace.
Being acting as a health care practitioner, I significantly lay my concern over promoting
health and safety related services within the workplace of HSC. Apart from this, I will also focus
on safeguarding the interest and rights of my patients and clients thereby providing them with the
safe and secure working environment. Also, I will deal with identifying the major needs and
demands of the patients and will focus on executing impressive measures that will closely
accomplish their acquirements and will help me to attain maximum level of satisfaction from my
clients.
2.4 The impact of not complying with the health and safety legislation
Non compliance reflects the aspects where the decisions are made and actions are taken
by not adhering with the legal and regulatory set of framework. Usually, if an HSC fails to attain
the total compliance of the legal and regulatory framework in which it operates its business
environment, then such industry will face a sudden downturn in its overall business activities in a
very significant way (Fotaki, 2011). The aspect of not complying with the health and safety
legislation result in creating a negative and harsh impact on the patients and clients. As a result,

the concerned entity lacks in attaining its client's satisfaction, trust, commitment and loyalty with
its brand image. Thus, the aspect of not compliance with the health and safety legislation
negatively and crucially affects the life of its patients and clients in a very significant way. With
regard to this context, the said industry fails to maintain its competitive and winning edge in the
vast and volatile international market. In lieu of this fact, CQC lays a considerable set of action
on HSC for its non compliance with the health and safety legislation. CQC reflects the legislative
body that deals with handling all the health and safety related challenges and issues in health and
social care workplace. Therefore, CQC lays its major concern over carrying out a detailed
understanding and evaluation of the concerned entity and takes appropriate and relevant
measures against such HSC for its non compliance with legal and regulatory framework. Apart
from this, organization also focuses on publishing their findings and evidences in its official
websites which states their working environment and business operations in a highly significant
way (Oven And et.al.,2012). Doing this tends to create a negative and harsh impact on the
motivation level of its patients along with its core employees. As a result, it finally results in
reducing the company's overall profit and performance in the tough traded business environment.
Apart from this, if the employees of HSC are found with committing a major mistake
within their workplace, the clients and the patients have the right to file a prosecution against
them. All such measures tends to affect the health and safety within the workplace of HSC in a
highly negative way. Therefore, it is highly recommended for the concerned entity to attain its
total compliance with the health and social care rules and legislation in order to attain the trust,
confidence and commitment of its clients in a very significant way.
TASK 3 MONITORING AND REVIEWING
3.1 Policies and procedures are monitored and reviewing work experience and support thoughts
Health care policies and procedures needs to be monitored and reviewed so that it helps
in developing proper health and safety at workplace. It also assists in developing effective
workplace practices and create healthy business environment so that success can be attained in
the form of employee satisfaction. Thus, in the current scenario, nursery school has been
undertaken that helps in developing appropriate health and safety policies which needs to be
timely reviewed and monitored so that positive workplace environment can be created. Health
care providers are required to timely review the legislation and maintain proper safety policies so

that it does not impact upon the health of children playing in nursery school (Øvretveit, Hansson
and Brommels, 2010). Regular auditing needs to be done so that proper guidelines can be
checked that it is followed properly or not and if found any loopholes then strict instructions are
required to be given so that effective results can be attained.
In order to monitor the health care policies and practices are required to be developed so
that inspection can be carried out in order to find any loopholes in the nursery school. Through
identifying the loopholes it assists in overcoming them so that effective policies and practices
can be attained so that satisfaction among patients can be attained. Also, reviewing helps in
updating the policies and practices so that proper facilities can be provided to care users and thus
enhance their living patterns in order to bring results. Monitoring and reviewing also assists in
identifying the requirements of nursery students in the HSC and thus proper workplace can be
developed so that it does not affect the care users (Martin, Charlesworth and Henderson, 2010.).
It also safeguards them from any type of accidents and incident occurred due to faulty workplace
and thus it affects the health of individual.
3.2 Effectiveness of policy and procedures and how they have contributed to positive health and
safety culture
It involves different considerations regarding health and safety policies and practices so
that nursery school can be able to develop proper health and safety culture and thus attain
effectiveness-
 Reduces in number of accidents and infection- However, through developing proper
health and safety policies within nursery school it assists in overcoming the number of
accidents and infection to nursery students so that best health can be developed by them.
For instance, nursery school is required to adopt proper policies and practices regarding
safety in the workplace helps in avoiding number of accidents and infection to students
and thus achieve satisfaction.
 Positive feedback from care users- It is another health and safety policy that helps in
improving the service quality of nursery school so that desired outcomes can be
generated. It also assists in improving the satisfaction level of nursery school and thus
overcome their problems (Ham, Dixon and Brooke, 2012). However, obtaining timely
feedback assists in practising effective care service to obtain the best health conditions.

Reviewing the feedback and improving the conditions helps in developing positive image
of nursery school in the minds of care users family members.
 Improving encouragement and competency of health care providers- Nursery school
is required to encourage service providers and develop competency among them so that
best health care services can be delivered by them in order to enhance the satisfaction of
nursery school care users. Through developing the competency of HSC people it helps
them to render the best quality services to patients and thus enhance the well being of
individuals.
It is essential for nursery school workers to develop positive image of care home in the
minds of service users' family and friends so that they can relax in terms of services provided to
their deer ones. Therefore, it is essential for workplace to use effective health care policies and
practices in order to reduce the possibility of workplace issues and thus provide the best
workplace environment to encourage well being of individuals (Timmins, 2012.).
3.3 Evaluation of own role in health and safety with respect to stakeholders
My own contribution towards health and safety at workplace is that I need to develop
effective personal and professional review so that better care practices can be carried out to attain
desired success. Also, it assists in reviewing effective health and safety work culture so that
different stakeholders such as employees and care users can attain satisfaction. For instance, it is
essential for me to review the health requirements of care users within nursery school so that
they can improve better workplace practices and thus attain desired targets. Additionally, I have
also provided that effective health and safety needs are required to be developed so that patients
can improve their health condition to attain success. I also need to develop effective training and
development programs so that skills and capabilities of individual can be developed within
nursery home. It is also essential for me to monitor and review the health care practices in
relation to develop better workplace environment within nursery school so that children can be
given best care facilities and thus achieve desired success. Moreover, I also need to evaluate my
responsibilities so that best results can be attained. It helps me to overcome my problems and
render best care practices to children. My own evaluation of placing health and safety policies
can be better evaluated through Gibbs reflective cycle and thus it helps me to attain success.

CONCLUSION
It can be concluded from the study that health and safety at workplace needs to be
developed so that proper policies and practices can be attained in order to render best services to
patients. However, workplace is required to develop proper care policies so that effective
workplace environment can be developed and thus render best services to patients to overcome
their diseases. Further, different efforts are carried out in order to develop better health care
workplace within nursery school so that children can be safeguarded from different health related
issues.
