Review systems and policies
According to the case study, there are several safety issues take place in
Winchester and Eastleigh NHS Trust regarding slip and falls due to wet
floors. It is analysed that may of incidents occur because the floor will have
left wet after cleaning them which is required to be solved in order to
provide secure environment to employees as well as patients.
Vertical and Horizontal procedure
This refers to process of proceeding information through hierarchy from top
level management to lower level workers step-by-step. The director of given
organisation can use vertical process to make people informed about safety
rules through following Equality Act in respect of reducing problem of slip
and falls.
The horizontal procedure includes to transfer at departmental level between
workers about safety rules and regulations. However, this process can be
implemented by director of Winchester and Eastleigh NHS Trust to ensure
security of employees and customers at workplace.
Responsibilities Conclusion
From the above PPT, it is concluding that health & safety is an important
aspect to be ensured in health and social care at workplace. It consists
systems and policies with legislative requirements such as vertical
procedure, horizontal procedure, emergency communication system, use
simple language and communicate precisely & clearly. However, it includes
organizational structure with certain policies like monitor risk & hazards,
managing systems & policies and improve health and safety standards to
make sure security in health organization. Moreover, it involves impact of
risk assessment such as capability to take immediate actions, increase
effectiveness of plan and patient safety.
The management of health and safety in relation to organizational structure
is essential by adopting effective technique of procedures in order to make
sure security of patients and staff. It consists to make appropriate policies
like use suitable equipment’s or material for cleaning and left dry floor for
reducing problem of slip & falls. Moreover, there are several responsibilities
to manage health & safety in Winchester and East Leigh NHS Trust by
applying certain effective policies to organizational structure which are as
follows –
Monitor risk and hazards – This can be described as to conduct several
programs or events in order to determine factors related to risk and hazards
so that required actions can be taken to reduce them. The director of given
healthcare organization can apply rule to conduct inspection and monitoring
procedures on regular basis to analyze safety issues early and take steps to
decrease them respectively.
Managing systems and policies – There are various types of rule and
policies are required to be implemented in healthcare organizations
regarding health & safety in order to reduce risk of accidents or injuries. In
context of Winchester and East Leigh NHS Trust, the director can apply
suggested policies like use of dry mopping system by using micro fibre and
other systems do reducing problem of slipping.
Health and safety priorities
There are different types of sections in hospital consisting their own health &
safety priorities which are required to be followed appropriately in respect of
ensuring security in organization. It includes different department such as
medical, childcare, surgical and elderly people which has specific criteria to
conduct desired clinical practices for achieving better outcomes of medication in

Reporting of incidents – This include the criteria for surgeon and other team
members associated with surgery are required to thoroughly investigate about

Moving and handling – The moving and handling of sick people is a task which
must be carried out very carefully in order to prevent incident or complications.

effective procedure for moving or handling patient in respect of ensuring safety
of sick individuals.
