Like any other hospital, Parklands hospital uses a vertical organizational structure since it
deals with the lives of people, which require the hospital to function precisely with high quality
execution of services. According to Ahmadya, Mehrpourb, & Nikooravesh (2016) this structure
is good for hospitals since it has a clear line of authority, increasing quicker decision making and
better designation of tasks to employees to increase the quality of services offered. In the
hospital, staff have clearly defined roles to reduce ambiguity and increase efficiency. The
hospital is divided into three main level of management, the board of members, the president or
the chief executive offer and the medical officers who are regarded as vice presidents and senior
executives who are also vice presidents.
The board members exist as fiduciaries who are supposed to steer the organization to a
sustainable future by adopting sound and legal governance to the organization. The board
ensures that the hospital is run by a competent CEO whose compensation is also determined by
the board. Since the board hires the CEO, then they are charged with the responsibility of
monitoring financial resources of the organization, setting the mission and vision of the
organization and planning to ensure that the organization achieves its goals (Moghaddasi &
Sheikhtaheri, 2010).
The chief executive officer exists as the brain of the hospital in charge of all the activities
take place in the hospital. The CEO implements hospital plans that are set by the board of
members through the assistance of the senior executives. Being the top administrator, the CEO
implements different clinical procedures and policies to ensure that the hospital complies with
the legal requirements (Bradley, Webster, Schlesinger, Baker, & Inouye, 2015). The
