Introduction:
The current sector of health care is getting changed with the advent of the Internet. The
medicine is turning to be practiced via a broad range of options.
The following study analyses the evolution of HMIS or Health Management Information
System. For the demonstration, the “population health” is chosen as the “next big thing” expected to
be seen in healthcare.
1. Population health and significance in HMIS:
The population health comprises three primary pillars. They are the economic and social
equity, environmental resilience and human health. It denotes the outcomes of the health of a group
of people and distribution of the outcomes under the group. It is seen in research and policy
discussion (Phelan et al., 2014).
The area of population health consists of the determinants of the health patterns, health
outcomes and interventions and policies linking them. This flourishing subject takes care of the
health of the populations or communities, unlike the direct care in the hand-on abilities.
2. The advantages and limitations of population health:
The advantages of "population-based health care" are primarily concerned with its emphasis
on targeting specific categories of an individual for whom incidences of a particular disease or injury
are particularly high (Guzys et al., 2015).
However one of the drawbacks lies in the fact the successful population health management
is a kind of change management for implementing latest methods of working. Another limitation is

that it needs changes in the reimbursement model. Lastly, the transition to a proactive and human-
centric care is an effective barrier (Khoury & Galea, 2016).
3. The effect of population health on digital equity:
The grant-making of population health in the space of digital arena has lead to exciting work
with the strong partners. They are dedicated to investigating whether the technology could be
utilized for advancing the health equity and enhance the outcomes of population health. The funding
of innovations needs a strategic method acknowledging the risks and scope included in investing
huge money in the digital health area (O'Sullivan et al., 2013). However, the potential for the return
on investments has been vital. The funding innovations have been turning to be more comfortable
with the top level risks.
4. Delivery of quality health care through population health:
The improved methods of quality have gained huge changes in sustainability in the quality of
healthcare and its outcomes. The transforming of healthcare to the population health system needs
ways to innovate. This also includes the improvement working around the sectors and professions.
This has been possible to replicate the success of improvement in the underpinning healthcare
settings and around the wider systems of educations, social and the other human services influencing
the outcomes of health in populations (Noble & Casalino, 2013). The methods of improvement of
quality have been able to translate the rhetoric of alignment, integration and collaboration to
practices around the differentiated human and health services.

5. The population health from the administrative viewpoint:
The administrators need a broad range of view about planning, coordination and
implementation for fetching population health initiatives. They are needed to be having an in-depth
understanding of the healthcare laws and policies. This must also include the present and future
challenges needing administrations for staying forward to the curve to see the public health.
Moreover, the administrators must be contributing and attending the important meetings along with
the governing boards and investors to identify the public health. They must supervise the assistant
administrators (Althouse et al., 2013).
Further Open communications are needed to be kept with the head of departments and
medical staff to find the issues of public health. They must be working to develop the entire
efficiency and economic effectiveness.
6. Effect of population health from the administrative viewpoint:
The population health has been concentrating on the primary goals regarding the targeted
patient populations and the measurement of success. The organizational mindset gets shifted from a
mere view of the complete network view. This encompasses various care settings like the urgent and
long-term cares. The administrators see a more holistic view of the patients via the foundations of
scalable connectivity. This is to share analytics and data around the care network (Althouse et al.,
2013). The population health sets up the proper processes of governance, training, organizational
structure and incentives. This is to engage the physicians and wider care team properly.
Conclusion:
It is seen from the study that the population health management systems have been a slightly
more effective than the conventional data collection systems. In order to develop the public health,

the organizations require tools and capacities to manage and submit data and take actions by that.
This also includes the quality reporting along with quantifying the cost of care.
