INTRODUCTION
For any health care it is very important to have an effective policy which can help them
in performing their work with accuracy and efficiency as well. It is essential to analyse the health
policy as it can impact a lot to any organization. According to Organisation for Economic Co-
operation and Development (OECD), Australian healthcare system is considered to be the best
healthcare system. Present report will study and analyse the issues in contemporary Australian
health care policy. And will also discuss about the evaluation and accountability for policy as
well.
MAIN BODY
1. Identification of problem to be addressed by a health policy
In Australian healthcare system there are various policies that are included in the system,
such as, National Medicines Policy. It is a policy in which is helps to improve the health
outcomes for all Australians by focusing on their access and usage of medicines for their health.
Medicines are those both, prescribed and non-prescribed medicines which includes
complementary healthcare products as well. This policy was established in December 1999.
The main objective of this policy is to make an improvement in the positive health
outcomes for all Australian (Shankardass & et.al., 2018). The main issue in this policy was that
the monitoring of the process was very poor due to which it becomes difficult for the Australian
healthcare system to improve the health quotient of their citizen effectively. They are also facing
inefficiency and workforce shortages which has significantly affected the public of the
availability of needed services to them. It also impacted on the clinical indicators and patient-
reported outcomes as well which indicates that they have a weak decision-making planning for
their patients and their carers (Blank, Burau & Kuhlmann, 2017).
2. Discussing key issues regarding the policy problem
The two main issues which is impacting The Australian healthcare system is that, there is
a huge issue in resource allocation which a huge impact on their performance. And another issue
which is affecting this policy is their overall performance and their patient's outcome about this
policy. (Harris, 2018). In National Health Policy, they have three key issues, i.e., improper
monitoring, inefficiency in their work which is being performed and workforce shortages. All
three issues has affected their performance and health of all the Australian citizens.
