Nursing profession comprises everyday challenges and hurdles as every day the nursing
professionals handle patients with different needs (Turnock 2012). This is the reason choosing an
appropriate carer option in nursing profession becomes important as each exerts its effect on the
patient’s health improvement. I chose Health promotion officer as my future career option and in
the following section I will discuss the details regarding this profession with my personal traits.
What
The primary role of Health promotional officer is to work in partnership with a
community, which is unable to access health care or utilize their rights to attain quality
healthcare and prevent their ailments or disease conditions. To choose this career option I
audited different career options and then as per my abilities and personal traits chose this career
option. This career option falls into the community health nursing initiatives group and requires
several qualities such as understanding of responsibility, ability to communicate with a big
community, being selfless while providing care and so on. Dosseyand Keegan (2012) has also
demonstrated that the core values of a health promotional officer should be discipline and
selflessness as these two helps them to communicate with an entire community and understand
their health concerns. Further, the officer should be aware of the social health determinants and
the way these determinants affect the health outcome of communities, such as food, shelter,
economy, education, and environment. Hence, the job role will be exploring the way these
programs, practices, and policies in different areas influence the health of persons, families, and
the entire communities. Further, establishing common goals, corresponding roles, and ongoing
positive relations between the health sector and the areas of social determinants of health..
Lastly, maximizing the opportunities for collaboration among federal, state and local-level
