INTRODUCTIONDepression is defined as the mental disorder which causes persistent mood swings,anxiety and depressed behaviour. It causes loss of interest and thus work efficiency can beinfluenced. Depression is considered as the major source of illness and can even cause disabilityif not treated properly. There has been significant relation between alcohol addiction anddepression. Thus, the issue is major public health concerns and must be managed at localcommunity levels as well (Pascoe and Parker, 2018). The report will provide a project plan forencouraging yoga and meditation among young generation groups so that alcohol addiction anddepression can be controlled and better life quality can be provided to the communities ofPadstow NSW, Australia. Depression among young people with alcohol addiction in Padstow NSW The young population groups in Padstow are at high risk of depressive disorders due toalcohol addiction. Though there may be several other reasons for the depression but the alcoholaddicted groups have higher vulnerability of having depression. NSW health services are havingvarious strategies and programs to create awareness for such health issues. For instance thehealth professionals and social community groups of Padstow encourages people to withdraw thealcohol so that they can lead a better life. The health service providers refers such patients towithdrawal management, community counselling and involuntary alcohol and drug treatmentprogram. However, most of the local communities in the region states that the engaged life stylemakes it difficult for young people to handle stress. There is less contribution of health care organisations towards encouraging young peopleto practice meditation for controlling their drinking habits as well as psychological stress.Padstow is having good number of yoga centres which helps people to learn and practicemeditation and yoga (Broderick and Metz, 2016). However, the number of young peopleattending such classes is very low. Most of the people who attend those classes are the peoplesuffering from chronic diseases who desires to maintain the healthy life so that their healthcondition can be maintained. Instead, if yoga practices are followed at educational andprofessional institutes then it will certainly develop meditation practice from the childhood only.The same practice will be carried to young age and dependency of depressed people on alcoholwill be reduced. 1

Significance of the issue According to Moore and et.al., (2016) the habit of consuming alcohol is increasingsignificantly in NSW. At present around 17% of the total young people consumes alcohol andout of them 6% are at highest risk of alcohol related deaths. There are various issues such asunemployment, emotional trauma, financial crisis, chronic diseases and other health careconditions which causes depression among adults. It has been also observed that the alcoholaddiction enhances the depressive and other psychological disorders. It is very important todevelop a local community management plan for the depression and alcohol consumption. Depression can take severe forms as the individuals may cause harm to themselves aswell as to others. The alcohol and depression can also increase the vulnerability of othercardiovascular, diabetes and chronic diseases. However, most of the young people of NSW arenot aware of the symptoms of mental health issue. There has been significant increase in thealcohol related deaths and the number of people suffering from depression at the younger age.Though antidepressants and other psychological counselling are widely preferred by the healthprofessionals for the treatment of depression but these are less effective (de Manincor and et.al.,2015). However contrary to this if individuals will be encouraged to practice yoga as theirroutine habit then it will help to manage the anxiety and depression. Further there is high level of unawareness among young people regarding benefits ofyoga and depression. Thus, such health promotion projects can be beneficial in enhancing thecontribution of health professionals and local communities to support such programs. It is verynecessary to protect young generation from depressive or alcoholic disorders so that they can beprevented from the chronic diseases and other life threatening impacts. Project focus The key focus of this project is to identify young generation who is suffering fromdepression and is addicted of alcohol. This is one of the major obstacle in the prevention andtreatment of the depression in Padstow NSW. At present there are various yoga and meditationcentres which helps people to maintain their physical as well as mental fitness. The mostimportant aspect of this project is that the alcohol addicted young groups does not find yoga asthe suitable action for the remedy of their depression. Contrary to this young generation of Padstow has strong belief that consuming alcoholcan resolve their depression issue (Wolpert and et.al., 2018). Thus, there is high need that this2
