INTRODUCTION

order to operate their business in smooth manner. It can be defined as the collection of
various processes, rules and laws, through which business operates, control and regulate their
functioning. The main purpose of corporate governance is to facilitate effective management
technique which helps the companies to gain long tern success as well as create their brand
image. It is very important for the companies to maintain a goad health and safety policy by
using corporate governance strategy in order to build a brand image (Ramos, Afonso and
Rodrigues, 2020). With the help of brand Image Company create a perception in the mind of
consumer. In the recent time very work are doing though machine and technology it is very
important to have a health and safety policy because it helps the company to create a
excellent reputation in the market which also aids in gaining market share. Thus, under this
report a detailed insight is made on the impact of health and safety policy on the image of
brand (Huang and Liu, 2018).
Background of the company
To conduct the investigation the chosen brand is Tesco. It is among the top leading
British multinational groceries stores. Tesco was founded in the year of 1919 by Jack Cohen.
Headquarter of Tesco was located at Welwyn garden city in England. In United Kingdom it is
at number one position in the list of retailers (Sigala, 2020). Tesco operates their business in
four other countries apart from UK which are Ireland, Hungary, Czech Republic and
Slovakia. Some of the well known brand of Tesco is Jack’s, F&F, Marko and many more.
The current company is choosing because it has a great brand image. So, in order to see the
impact in their image due to health and safety policy the company is being selected.

occupational health and safety. It is the right of every employee in whatever industry they are
working to have a safe working environment towards their job. There are so many different

workers working in a company. The health and safety policy are being build in order to
minimise the risk related to accident, injuries and fatalities. It is the duty of the management
to assure that they are providing safe and healthy working space to their employee.
As per the world health organisation the definition of workplace health and safety is
“organisation should aim at developing and maintaining a high degree of physical, social and
mental well being t their workers in order to safeguard their feeling”. It is the duty of the top
management to adopt those policies and laws which will protect the health of their workforce
so that they can work with more dedication and efficiency (Das and Rangarajan, 2020). If a
safe working place is there then the productivity level of the employee were high because

reasons behind passing this law by the legislation of the country. As they want that their
workers will not get injured nor has any health issue while working in an organisation.

Health and safety work act 1974. Some of the policy that they adopted is as follow:
Slip and Trips policy: In a retail sector slip and Trips are the most common accident by
Tesco uses this policy in order to minimise the slip and trips of the employee. They keep a
house keeping staff so that they can minimise the risk an employee face (Fan and Zhou,
2018). Some of the duty they perform are as:
They keep the inventory room in neat and tidy manner which helps them to feel free

the issue that company faces in case of health and safety scandal are as follow:
Negative public opinion: the foremost problem that will be encounter by the
organisation is negative image of the company in consumer mind. If there is not
proper safety measures that are being adopted by the company and due to which
accident take place in large number. Then this wills create a poor public opinion
which will affect their business (Friend and Kohn, 2018). A bad public image will
badly effect the growth and success of the company and they brand will not able to
sale their goods and service in the market. This is the worst issue which they can face
and it impacts the overall business in greater sense.

advanced technology is being used by the organisation; it is the duty of the mangers to train
their employee because t will reduce the risk related to the health and safety of the employee.
Due to improper health and safety Scandal Company faces lot of challenges which will
reduce the market reputation. Thus, it is very crucial for the company to adopt the right health
and safety policy for their stakeholder in order to run their business in smooth manner.
