Workplace health and safety are the prime concern of any organization for running a
successful company. However, sometimes the health safety and security of the employees are
threatened by certain internal and external factors. Therefore, Rhodes college has developed few
relevant legislation that the organization gave the commitment to comply with within
Occupational health safety policy are the following:
Occupational Health and Safety Act 2004 ( Victoria):
This act design to provide a framework for workplace health and safety and this act
ensures that health and safety of the employee should not be at risk by activities individual
exhibit in workplaces1. In order to prevent such risks promotion of public awareness and
discussion of public health and safety is crucial. This act eliminates all the sources of that can
threaten the safety of employee and employer.
Dangerous good acts 1985:
This act of workplaces concerns the manufacture, storage, and transport of the goods in
Victoria. This act ensures that sufficient precaution is taken against certain fires or explosion,
leakage of any dangerous material. If any such incident observed by any of the employees then
they should report it to the higher authority. Therefore, health and safety of each employee in the
workplaces prioritized adequately2.
Workplace Injury Rehabilitation and Compensation Act 2013:
This act replaces two previous acts: Accident compensation act 1985 and Accident
Compensation (Worker cover insurance ) act 1993. This act addresses the concerns when
Victorian workers are injured or killed because of the certain reason. It act also covers insurance
of the workers, compensation of the workers, Rehabilitations.

Equipment public safety act 1994:
This act regulates concerns the design, manufacture, and supply. of any prescribed
equipment. This act states that all the equipment inspected by inspectors. For accessing
equipment, specific clothing required.
The effectiveness of the Workplace Health and Safety Management system:
Workplace health and safety of individuals is the prime concern of any business industry.
By creating this management system, workplace accidents reduced exponentially and the safety
of the individual secured.

I am the supervisor of the team who intends to work with your college and review the
OHS Policies of the college for the propagation of a healthy and safe working environment. My
team will evaluate the current health and safety policy of your college that is being followed and
produce a report card with the help of certain evaluation tool for demonstrating and developing
the current workplace scenario. Some of the basic tools that we will be using for the assessment
and evaluation is the safetyMap, OHSAS 180001: 2007 and AS/NZS 4801: 2001. Our evaluation
procedure will furthermore include continuous improvement model that will help your college
benefit from the past experience and hazards that questioned the workplace safety and health of
the workers and the students7With the proper review of the current system and the outcomes, our
team aims towards promotion of continuous improvement strategy for the provision of
appropriate action of remedies that will be recognized by the audits. Some of the examples of the
benefits that your college will gain after the evaluation and review of the current WHSMS policy
includes 1) The improvement of the measures of the performance via safety aids, indicators of
compensation commission, rehabilitation and internal KPIs8. 2) Consideration of the OHS and
injury management as the agenda of the executive meetings and proper allocation of the
resources for the assessment and identification of the workplace injuries and reports on the
progress in the half-yearly and annual review reports. Continuous improvement and review of
the policies are important and it affects the overall performance rate of the college9. The benefit

Though there have been lots of new changes and improvement in the current OHS policy
of the Rhodes College, it still needs further improvement.
Recommendations
The change in the timeframe of the return to work program where employees or the
inured staff are encouraged to return to work after a short span
The span of time needs to be increased since the affected worker may also feel sick
after joining work before getting fully recovered
Rhodes College’s current compensation regarding the injury of the worker’s
furthermore needs to be revised and divided into different range according to the
level of injury.
The person or the employees suffering from major and critical workplace accidents
with the damage of any of his or her body parts needs permanent compensation and
aids for the rest of the life if he or she cannot work further
The employees who suffered death during the workplace should also receive proper
respect and their family members should be provided with rehabilitation expenses
and benefits11.
The rights and the responsibilities of the injured staff members need to be revised
and provision of suitable duties and responsibilities for the injured members who
join the work after their recovery should also be ensured
The rhodes college policy should include strict standards of the clause of
confidentiality of the injured persons in their revised policies.
