INTRODUCTION
Reflection is a process where an individual person explores their own experiences in life
in both positive and negative terms. This has done for making changes and development in
existing skills. Heath and social care practices needs an active mind because they deals with the
life of people. This report discuss about the reflective theories which help for self evaluation. It
analyse a critical incident where individual role, actions and thoughts are outlined. Then a
SMART action plan is made to improve these actions if same situation occurs in future. It helps
in both personal and professional development.
TASK 1
Knowledge and understanding of reflective practice
Reflection refers to a process of observing self and then evaluating outcomes based on
experience. It is like a mirror in which anyone can see themselves. It reflects the way of doing
work which will help in making improvements. Actually, it identifies the weaker and stronger
areas which id further processed to learning procedure. Then it identifies the skills than an
individual person has for achieving business objectives. Learning is basic need of a person,
especially when it is related to other people's life. Health and social care practices need much
attention to know the self weakness (Burns and Danyluk, 2017).
Purpose of reflection:
Reflection is done to evaluate a comparative data between expert one and average one.
Reflection is one of the best practice in medical field. Reflection do not takes any training for it.
it is a self- evaluation part, and its purpose is to identify the weaker areas of an individual where
they need improvement. Health care candidates deals with improvement in health, protection in
health, and services that are included in health. It leads to a learning aspects where everyone
focus on learning other strategies to overcome them. This referred to self directed learning
approach where individual takes step to overcomes those weaknesses. This can be understand
through a reflective theory which supports an individual in self evaluating. Reflective theories
are the best supportive which guide them to follow each step of theory for better outcomes.
According to the Gibbs reflective model, it will help in analysing the reflective perceptions
about the learning and experience about the health care professional activities within the
organization. As per the Grenfell tower fire case, different stages of Gibb's model help in sharing
the personal views and experience about such activities.

Description: The fire safety policy of the Grenfell Tower was advised the people to stay at their
homes even the fire broke out in their houses (Reyes and Neuhoff, 2018). It was happened in 14
June 2017 in which a fire broke out in 24-storey Grenfell Tower block which had caused 72
deaths. Many of the people escaped while many were waiting fro the fire emergency team and
got burnt in that fire. So being a health practitioner, I feel there should be a proper health
awareness among people who would be escaped at the time of fire emergency in the building. I
feel much copuld be done at the same time in order to reduce the number of deaths as disaster
management planning woruld be able to restrict the building from the huge disaster.
Feelings: During that situation in the North Kensington, It was very shocking for me to hear the
list of occasions on which the Grenfell Tower Residents felt actual fear for their lives. I feel there
was a urgent need to organize and demand the immediate actions. I feel the situation could be
handled if the authorities would have responded the situation.
Evaluation: The experience was extremely bad and that situation of fire had killed the many
people in the incident. I feel this is one of the learning experience for the other people as proper
disaster recovery actions and awareness should be made among the people and it enables the
people to understand the disaster mitigation steps (Kaptay, 2017). Being a health care practioner,
I feel that some people had used the presence of mind and found the ways to escape from the
building while it was very bad that many of the people were at the top who could not found the
ways to escape and died in the disaster.
Analysis: I realised that it could be prevented upto some extent but the lack knowledge of the
people of the area on how top respond on the fires in high rise building have killed the lives of
many people living there. It could also be analysed that Lack of consideration of the residence
agency inability to learn from past lessons has compromised the death of the people.
Conclusions: I concluded that people should be aware about such disastrous activities and I
learned that mitigation plans should be made to restrict such disasters to affect the life of the
people.
Action plan: I learned that if I had to face the same situations again then I should have created a
proper mitigation plan to escape from such situations.
Another reflective model which helps in sharing the personal reviews and experiences is
Kolb's reflective model that consists of the following steps (Wain, 2017). This reflective model
is categorised into four sub parts which are as follows:

Experience: A very disastrous experience is encountered in which the fire is escaped from the
building. I experienced the fear of death among the people who are screaming for their lives.
Reflective observations: I observed that mitigation plan, disaster recovery and proper responsive
reaction of the authority could have could have prevented the lives of many people.
Conceptualisation: Being the Health care practitioner, I found a better idea in ordr to address
such issues in future. The idea is that people should be provided proper training and mitigation
policies which should be promoted through internet and various effective advertising techniques.
Active experimentation: This phase of the Kolb's reflective life cycle helps in testament of their
agency and strength, residents in order to create new organization (Körkkö, Kyrö-Ämmälä and
Turunen, 2016). Also I experimented various campaigns to demand the justice for those lives in
the form of Development of the response authority and enquiry sessions.
TASK 2
A critical incident reflective analysis
Grenfell tower fire is one of the most critical incident that happens in West London. I was
working with my group there at that time. I was leader of my group and worked for safety and
security of people in building. Grenfell tower is a 24 storey building which has different number
of flats. On the day of 14 June 2017, this critical incident takes place. A blast of fire broke out in
24 storey building at mid night near 1:00 AM. Initially it has been analysed that building is made
with precautions of fire. But when fire strikes, it laid to all top floors and cause many deaths. At
night, it made the people in conscious state of fire broke out (Abaci, Ciger and Thalmann,
2015). I can see people's condition of running from here and there for the survival of life. It was
declared as one of the structural fire in UK.
When my team members get to know about the fire broke out, they inform the
management team first and ring a alarm to aware all people in building. as our team is from
health and social care, I immediately inform a hospital to rescue people who are stuck in fire.
From initial process, it was analysed that fire as started from forth floor through malfunctioning
in freezer of fridge. As door was open, it get spread to corridors. Then it captured by all
residential floors. Some people escape from bottom floor to top floor but then also, in some
minutes, top floors are also captured by fire. This total fire presented for at least 60 hours. Fire
extinguishers also took some time to come for the rescue. There were more than 250 fire fighters
and have 70 fire engines to control the fire and to rescue the people from building ( Pfeffer and

Sutton, 2017). I also helped rescue team to bring people from building and to save them. Even
more than 100 ambulance service provided at that time to people who are in critical stage.
I have a thought to apply a method to rescue people from building. But at that time, I don
not want to waste time in thinking, discussing and then applying method. I do whatever I feel
right at that time. I send my team members to every floor and instruct them to help al those who
are in need and stuck in fire. My team members are also trained in advance against such hazards.
They are al cooperative one and help fire extinguishers to rescue people and to save their lives.
Even I informed metro police so that they can inform the families of dead ones. But it has been
noticed that it leads to only vertical spread of fire not horizontal. It means that material that is
used for making the outside walls are fire proof and too much qualitative as compared to inner
walls (Hiam, 2017.
I feel some weaknesses in my skills to rescue people from fire. I do not have enough
skills to go in fire and to save people. I found my skills weak and need a training. I hesitate some
where to go to rooms that are fully captured in fire. I also lacks some tools which are used to
extinguish fire. I so not have a full jacket which is a fire protective equipment for self.
Otherwise, I feel that I was confident about my strategies and for leading a team. I play as a team
leader very efficiently. Even my team members play a very important role in getting positive
outcomes.
Grenfell tower case is one of the greatest incident that takes place in London. In this
approx 72dealth occurred, 70 were injured and 223 had succeed in escaping. Metropolitan police
service is investigator to find out the cause of fire. They started investing since14 September
2017. Greenfell tower was made under stay put policy in which spread of fire cannot possible.
So, I thought from this incident that any policy cannot decrease the chance of hazards. This can
be done at any time. In stay put policy, fire can broke out in one flat but not to whole building.
This stay put policy failed under this incident.
Then a issue is generated with dead ones and their belongingness. Then some charity and
health care trust helps those people and provide some funds for their family. Even I also arranges
some money by collecting donations from my team members and many others so that I can help
them for their future purpose (Watt, 2017).

TASK 3
the stages of reflection or critical incident reflective analysis
The Reflective practices helps in developing the knowledge of the individual regarding
such tragedies which impacts on the lives of the people. Being the Health care practitioner, this
reflection will be helpful for all those learners who will be able to develop the complete
knowledge regarding such experiences. This reflective models helps in understanding the
personal reflection regarding the disastrous activities which provides the ideas and proper steps
to improve such situations. Gibbs reflective structure helps the individual in learning from the
experience. It also helps in describing the feeling and thoughts of the individuals regarding the
specific individual experience (Burns and Danyluk, 2017). Gibb's reflection on the particular
incident or experience allows the people to deal with the similar situations in the future.
However, if the health care practitioner do not reflect on their experience and if they don't
consciously think about how they could be better in handling the same situations. Gibb's
reflective model is effective as it consists of various different phases in that helps in learning
from the same experience.
However, Kolb's reflective model consists of fewer steps and this cannot provide the
clear view about the experience. It provide smaller view on the experience and incident which
takes place. Meanwhile, Kolb's has a holistic perspective which develops a proper understanding
among the readers. This holistic structure allows the people in acquiring one's experience,
Perception, cognitive and behaviour regarding a particular incident. Kolb's Experimental learning
style typically represents four phases in the learning cycle in which the learners touches all the
bases such as concentrate on the existing experience, a new experience of the situation is
encountered, reinterpretation of the existing experience and provides the Reflective observation
of the situation.
TASK 4
a reflective model or framework in critical incident analysis and produce an Action Plan
Application of chosen reflective model
Gibb's model of reflection implied that it is necessary to identify the description of
incident. Gibb's cycle is very useful in analysing reflection of self in Grenfell incident. It was one
of the most destructive incident that takes place in London. Role of self is easily evaluated using

Gibb's cycle. It also helps to draw a conclusion related to skills that are helped during process of
incident. Identification of weaker areas help to make a action plan
Values, beliefs that may have impacted on the incident
I have a value for environment conditions. This Grenfell tower incident cause so much
influence on environment conditions. Fire which is broke out to 24- storey building leads to so
much air pollution and leads to many deaths. If a building is made according to much space for
people then it should carry some emergency precautions tool kit so that this can be detained for
some time and people get a chance to escape from that area. but in this incident, some people do
not get chance and stuck in fire and get injure or death (Cohen, 2018).
other possible options
I as a team leader in that incident for safety and security purpose have other possible
options as well. I and my team is busy in rescuing people from fire. But we have option to take
inured people to hospital for their better treatment and to get them from emergency case. An
alternative option is to help fire extinguishers to extinguish fire as soon as possible. But then also
it take 60 hours to extinguish fire completely (O'Keefe and Hayes, 2018).
how reflection supports development
Reflection promotes to self awareness to identify the weaker areas and stronger areas in
self so that weaker areas can be improved by taking some training or by applying some
strategies. A health and social care candidate focus on improving patient health and in this their
knowledge and skills are also enhancing from initial level to final level. Development can stop
the existing process for some time but after that it gives better result as compared to previous
one. This leads to development due to reflection.

This smart action plan shows that any incident can not stop anyone from upgrading their
skills and have development in career. This action plans helps me to develop my skills within
time schedule. It also develops my time management skills for achieving these skills on time. It
reflects that any past incident cannot strictly prohibit the development. There are other
opportunities in waiting list which needs improvement in skills and more concentration towards
the goals and targets. A health and social care area always ready for safety of people and to save
their lives. Hence, above SMART action helps me to develop my skills and knowledge for
saving people's health and also makes attentive for their concern to have a full emergency kit

CONCLUSION
This report summarised about reflective practices that are used in health and social care.
Grenfell tower was analysed as one of the critical incident in London which leads to many
deaths. There is involvement of health and social care practices that are used for rescuing
people's life. A detailed analysis of Grenfell tower for incident is outlined in which individual
involvements, their thoughts and actions are explained. Different goals are targeted by individual
and with the help of reflective cycle, weaker areas are identified. A SMART action plan is made
for an individual in which different goals are outlined. Their measurable techniques are discussed
and time period is framed for achieving these objectives. This is a reflective study which
explained the purpose of refection in developing career more better.
