Task I
In the historical period, it was assumed that the aboriginal people population was more than
750,000 and they were inhabited in the island since 1788. Additionally, they were declared as
Australian in 1770. In the case of Torres Strait Islander, they were the people who came to
Australia from the island named as Torres Strait. The Torres Strait Islander and Aboriginals
are people which mostly faces the health problems such as mental issues, respiratory
diseases, chronic kidney disease, diabetes and cardiovascular disease (Wilson & Palermo,
2018).
Australian colonisation period starts with the violation of Indigenous people for right to land
and it has affected the culture and the communities of the Indigenous people. At that time
almost 20,000 Aboriginal Australians were killed as the result colonial violence get started.
Task II
The Cultural awareness is refers to the awareness of various cultural groups. This concept
includes the identification of own or individual cultural identity, practice and values. This is
the foundation of the communication, which includes the standing back ability and becoming
aware of the perceptions, values and the beliefs of the culture. On the other hand, Cultural
safety in context of healthcare system, could be examination of the own belief, practices and
behaviour (Guerra & Kurtz, 2017). The cultural safety ensures the perceived services must be
safe for the culture of the patient as well as for the provider.
