Introduction
The assignment focuses on the values, principles and laws of healthcare industry of
Canadian Medical Industry with the association of the government of Alberta.
Scenario 1
The case study focuses on the experience of an LPN who showed interestin serving for a flu
clinic and felt confident about her skills. She wanted to administer parenteral injection in the
patients despite being a new graduate. Health Professions Act states that the specialised and
higher level educations should be provided to the Alberta's LPNs as involvement of
significant level of risks regarding vaccination is present in their profession (CCPNR, 2013).
According to section 13(4) of competency profile (2019) only registered members are
allowed to administer the vaccinations and restricted the authorization of the clinical
implementations (CLPNA, 2015). There are some regulations which should be followed
during the implementation of drugs and improvement of immunization among the patients by
administering the medications. The regulations are as followed;
a) The recipient must be five years of age or older than that to receive the immunization.
b) The regulated members should maintain the protocols during the administration of
drugs.
c) The practitioner must be authorized and available for consultation during perform the
restricted activity (CLPNA, 2019, p. 146)
However, Lovely feels that she is competent enough for administering the parenteral
medication to the patients of the flu clinic. She is ethically and legally authorized to support
the flu clinic patient but the nurse does not have the authorization toperform therestricted

clinical activity which is approved by the schedule 7 of Government Organization Act with
the medical council (CLPNA, 2018).
Scenario 2
This case focuses on the issues of using abusive languages in the social media for expressing
her views for her annoyance of long shift hours and excessive work pressure. According to
the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (2017), social media is one of the best
platform to connect to the world, seeking the help and,expressing views and use as an
informational data source for any individual. However, nurses should not behave
unprofessionally in expressing themselves in those social media platforms and these
misconducts cannot be tolerated by the council. According College of Licensed Practical
Nurses of Alberta (2017), "Using social media to post inappropriate comments on personal
accounts puts the LPN at risk of damaging their professional image, as well as the image of
the LPN profession as a whole" (p.2). The council focuses on maintaining the therapeutic
relationship between the employees and the clients admitted to the hospitals. Breach of
privacy of legislation can be occurred while medical personnel express some private and
confidential information of a patient (CLPNA, 2017). Additionally defamatory comments
about another person and other organisation are considered as breach of confidentiality and
civil action. The nurses will be penalised when they prove guilty by the court. The nurses
should give fine to all the damages caused by him or her. In the case study, Betty did not
make any insulting comment by mentioning the patient’s name and other personal
information (CNPS, 2012). However the act will be considered as the misconduct and
violating the integrity of the patient. The nurses should maintain a professional conduct

without breaching the code of ethics and maintaining the professional boundaries. The
professional conduct should maintain the boundaries on, and off duty to keep the integrity.
The nurses should integrate the service with trust, and confidence of the public (CLPNA,
2018).
Scenario 3
The scenario focuses on the conflict between nurse’s responsibility during provision
of care versus personal values and beliefs of a nurse. Nurses are bound to provide responsible
competent and ethical care to the patients and maintain the rules and policies associated with
national or international sanitation standard while serving the patient (CLPNA, 2013).
Sometimes nurses face few situations where they need to handle professional duties and
personal values about any bias to provide quality of care. There are nursing principals which
can prevent undesired conflict during patient care. Principal 5 of CLPNA has adopted some
regulations which outline the ethical responsibility of NLP. According to Canadian Council
for principal nurse regulators ‘responsibility to self ‘states; " Disclose to the supervisor/
employer of any potential or existing personal or legal conflict that makes it difficult to
participate in an intervention. Inform the appropriate authority in the event of becoming
unable to practice safely, competently, and or ethically" (CCPNR, 2013 p.8). If conflict
between nurse duty and their conscience is taking place they should inform their supervisor
change their duties and shifts as per client's need (Canadian Nurses Association, 2017). As a
professional, LPN should take responsibility to avoid any kind of harm and breach of safety
during treatment. In this case study Samantha good ask help from her Manager or supervisors
to meet the expectation of client (CCPNR, 2013). She might be acted with honesty but that
can impact on clients need. It has been observe that her refusal was not because of any kind
of bias or discrimination or prejudice for a particular person (CCPNR, 2013). Manager or

supervisor could make arrangement alternatives for avoiding any kind of compromise of
safety and comfort of the patient (CCPNR, 2013).
Scenario 4
This scenario is about delegation of task to a care provider who is fruit by nursing
regulations. Nurses should delegate task appropriately with proper professionalism to other
Healthcare team members especially to Health Care Aids (CLPNA, 2013). According to
Healthcare profession act and Government Organisation Act, it is stated that nurses should
take decision in the supervision of HCA and should need to determine their limits during
medication administration (CLPNA, 2013). HCAs should provide scheduled oral medication
as per client's health status. They should ensure that the client’s health is stable and
predictable with the help of healthcare professionals. HCAs are responsible for administration
of medication among patients when regular medications are not functioning well or
appropriately. In this situation they decide to administer PRN medication because of better
skill and knowledge for assessing the patient. Clinical judgement is very important for nurses
to decide the condition of patient administration of medication (CLPNA, 2013). In certain
condition Healthcare CID support the PRN medication to detect symptoms with document
instructions and proper supervision of a nurse (AHS, 2016). Here, Aman should not delegate
HCA administer PRN medication to client because this action requires decisions of a nurse
and the Council (CLPNA, 2013). Nurses are allowed to give PRN medication ANR with the
supervision of superior nurses according to rules and policy (AHS, 2016).

Scenario 5
In this scenario mishandling of patient health information is observed. The nurse
allowed an unauthorised person to access patient’s documents and files unintentionally. The
privacy and confidentiality of personal health information should be maintained by the nurse
very carefully for maintaining dignity of client. There are laws which are active against legal
offence of leakage of information and breach of privacy and dignity of a patient in healthcare
industry (CLPNA, 2019). Disclosure of patient’s details and information without their
knowledge or consent is a criminal offence. Documents should be stored shared kept and
disposed with proper security and confidentiality (CLPNA, 2018). In this case study, the
nurse assigned to the patient failed to maintain the laws for privacy and kept clients file on
Dashboard of a truck without being careful. As a result the documents can be visible and
disclosed to others without patients consent. According to CLPNA, client’s privacy and
confidentiality is necessary to preserve as trust with thin client and nurse is one of the most
important aspect of Healthcare industry. In Canada code of ethics states in section 2.3.1
that-“Safeguard the health and personal information by collecting, storing, using and
disclosing it in compliance with relevant legislation and employer policies” (CLPNA, 2018 p.
1).
A nurse should be responsible and accountable for protecting and preserving
information of client when they are assigned to a particular patient. The custodian might be a
nurse and should maintain secure and protective way off sharing data. Therefore, Mr. Singh's
mother has been deprived getting the service related to safety and security of her information
as the nurse assigned to her left file consisting documents in a truck. The nurse was negligent
and breached the principle of privacy and confidentiality as she gave the access of client’s
information to an unauthorised person. On this ground Council can take action against this
casual behaviour of the nurse (CLPNA, 2019).

Conclusion
The assignment has covered some significant gaps or deficits of education and
professional conduct of the healthcare workers in different scenarios. This assignment also
describes the associated laws and regulatory actions to prevent the misconducts.
