During year 1949, the total number of documented staff was confined to 111 and less than 100
beds in total. Since that time, the healthcare sector is continuously advancing and huge
developments have been performed to every corner of the nation (Repetto, 2009). The number of
staff and hospitals has multiplied 40 to 50 times since 1949 and sector has also witnessed a great
support from the government with a sharp increase in the health budget which is almost equals to
7% of the total national budget (Repetto, 2009).
Analysis of Saudi’s Present Health Care System
The introduction of technology into the healthcare sector was carried out in 1970. During the
time of King Faisal Specialized hospital became the first to implement ICT. Later in starting
years of 21st century a committee was formed to improve and evaluate the healthcare system
(James, 2017). The committee worked upon the principles of infrastructure development and
advancement in best medical services. The upgrade in the healthcare facilities coupled with
increased funding in the healthcare sector, Saudi Arabia’s healthcare system has been ranked at
26th position amongst 191 total healthcare systems across the world. New-Zealand, US, Australia
and Canada has been ranked lower than Saudi’s rank in spite of being the most developed
countries in the world (Lukas, Holmes & Cohen, 2017).
60% of the health services are provided free of cost by the ministry of health of Saudi Arabia via
13 health directorates. Some of the government agencies aids in additional 20% free services
while rest of 20% is being provided by non-government sector and is also growing rapidly
