The following case study revolves around Jayne. Jayne is a 22 year old girl who is at
her final year at the university. She has also revealed her obsession with drug and alcohol
from childhood. Daily cases of alcohol intake along have eventually led to isolation and
depression which have occasionally shown increased chances of suicidal attempts. The
following paragraphs highlight the various interventions required to help Jayne as well as
enhance her mental conditions and limit her issues with substance use. Moreover, it also
includes the implementation of a proper and effective care plan based on the requirements of
Jayne with the help of a Multidisciplinary team.
Since Jayne has a combination of mental disorder due to isolation and depression and
constant issues of substance use, dual diagnosis is a possible option for her recovery.
Significance of dual diagnosis
According to National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), the type of treatment
given to a patient suffering from substance use and mental illness simultaneously is defined
as dual diagnosis. People consider it as a forms of self-medication and a means of improving
their present health situation. According to National Survey on Drug and Use, almost 7.9
million people suffer both from substance use disorder and mental disorder (DeLuca et
al.2016). As already mentioned in the aforementioned paragraphs, Jayne have revealed
increased substance like cannabis and smoking. Moreover she have heard different voices
due to the increase in substance use. Therefore, dual diagnosis would be helpful in assessing
Jayne’s mental health.
Assessment for urinary tract infections
According to Lam et al (2015), urinalysis tests are semi analysis tests for the
treatment for urinary tract infections. Although it is has a limited accuracy, it is a quantitative

biochemical method for diagnosing bacternuria using biomarkers. In the case study it has
been evident that Jayne has consulted with her general practitioner for urinary tract
infections. Thus a urinalysis test would be better giving a proper diagnosis of her disease.
Interventions for low mood, depression and mental disorders
a) Significance of Bio psychosocial assessment
A psychosocial assessment is defined as the evaluation of the patient’s mental health
social status as well as functional capacity which is present within the community. It
considers the perception of the patient’s self along with the ability of the patients function in
the community (Rentala et al.2015). It is helpful in covering the aspects of the patients life to
receive an idea of the treatment goals ( Kazak et al.2015). Jayne has already discussed about
her low health conditions. So such an assessment would be helpful in focusing on her mental
health as well as instances of substance use.
b) Significance of Mini Mental State assessment
Mini mental state exams are tests widely used for testing the cognitive function
among elder people which includes tests for orientation, memory, language as well as visual
spatial skills. It is extensively used in clinical as well as research settings for measuring the
cognitive impairment. Moreover it is helpful in estimating thee progression as well as
severity of the disease which follow the course of cognitive changes in individuals over time
(Holis et al.2015). Jayne has accepted smoking of cannabis as well as drinking. MSSE would
be effective in assessing her mental disorders like isolation, depression stress as well as
psychosis.
c) Significance of risk assessments
Risks assessments are used for the identification of hazards which can negatively
impact their health. Patients who suffer from health problems often experience unpleasant
symptoms of their condition as well as enhanced risk of harming themselves. Risk
