Even though the human body is incredibly complex, it does have an underlying less complicated organisation. Briefly describe the 6 (six)levels of structural organisation of the human body in order from the smallest structural unit to the largest (in 130-150 words).1. Chemical Level – It is the simplest level among all the levels. It consists ofatoms which are the tiniest particles of matter. They combine to form molecules, which in turn combine to form organelles which are present internally in the cell.2.Cellular level – It is made of cells which are the smallest particles present in theliving matter. They differ from each other in size and shape and perform differentfunctions in the body.3.Tissue Level- Tissues are made of similar types of cells and perform a commonfunction. Examples include epithelial issue, connective, muscle tissue and nervoustissue.4. Organ Level –An organ is made of a minimum of two different types of tissuesto perform a definite function for the growth and development of the body.Examples are brain, liver, kidney etc.5. Organ system level – It consists of different organs which work together toperform a common role. For instance, heart and blood vessels work to circulateoxygen and several nutrients to all the cells in the body. For example, respiratorysystem, digestive system and nervous system etc.6. Organismal level – It is the highest level in the body and consists of all thestructural level that work together(Liu et al. 2015). Displaying 1 to 31 out of 31 total.

2. There are various life processes that tell us that human beings arealive. Describe the following life processes in your own words (in 30-50 words each).2.1Organisation: It consists of biological systems and structures which are complex in nature and perform specific functions that are responsible for the growth and development in the body. 2.2Processes of metabolism: This process helps in the breakdown and oxidation of molecules which are large in size. These small molecules provide energy to the body.2.3Nutrition: This is the process which provides vital nutrients for the growth and development of the body(Combs. and McClung , 2016).2.4Biological maturation: It is the process in which all the tissues, body organs and organsystems reach a mature state to perform several functions. 2.5Inheritance: It is the process in which traits are passed from the parents to their off springs.2.6Ageing: It is a process in which there are changes in the structure and the function in an organism with time and it grows old(Kubben and Misteli, 2017).3. Briefly describe the overall structure and functions of the following components of the human body.3.1Cell (in 40-60 words): It is the smallest unit in a living matter and is also called as building blocks of life. It consists of an outer layer known as the cell membrane and consists of cytoplasm containing different types of proteins and nucleic acids(Liu et al. 2015).. 3.2Skeletal muscle tissue (in 40-60 words): It is called as voluntary muscle and is attached to the bone. Its function can be controlled and occur in pairs. It has a complex structure and have myocytes which have multinuclear cells called as myofibers(Ostrovidov et al. 2014).4. Briefly describe the structure and functions of the cardio-vascular system (in 60-80 words). It is also known as the circulatory system which performs several functions in order totransport different types of nutrients such as amino acids, oxygen, hormones and cells toprovide immunity and maintain the homeostasis in the body. It comprises of two systemssuch as cardiovascular system which transports blood to all the parts in the body and thelymphatic system which transports lymph. The cardiovascular system consists of thearteries, capillaries, coronary vessels, portal veins and the heart whereas the lymphaticsystem consists of the lymphatic capillaries, lymph nodes, organs and the lymphatictissues(Lavie et al. 2015).5. How does the respiratory system work with the cardio-vascular system? (In 60-80 words). The respiratory system works along with cardiovascular system in the transportation

of oxygen to all the parts of the body. It comprises of the heart, blood and the lungs. It works in acyclic manner. When an organism breathes, the oxygen enters into thelungs and gets mixed in the blood. The heart pumps the oxygenated blood to themuscles which help in performing movement. When the muscle uses all the oxygen, itproduces carbon dioxide which gets absorbed in the blood stream. The de-oxygenated blood goes back to the heart and the lungs. The lungs get rid of carbondioxide and take oxygen again(Das et al. 2016).6.Briefly describe the structure and functions of the muscular system (in 60-80 words). The muscular system plays a significant role in the movement of the human body. Itconsists of around 700 different types of muscles which are attached to the bones.Muscle tissues are present in the heart, blood vessels, and digestive organs. Theseare of three types namely visceral muscles, cardiac muscles and skeletal muscles.Visceral muscles are present in the intestines, blood vessels and the heart. They arealso called as involuntary muscles. Cardiac muscles are present in the heart andpump blood to all the parts of the body. Skeletal muscles are voluntary in nature andcan be controlled by human beings (Rizzo, 2015).7. Briefly describe the structure and functions of the skeletal system (in 60-80 words).Skeletal system consists of all the bones and the joints present in the body. Bones aremade of different types of cells, minerals and proteins. The skeletal system providessupport and protects the tissues. It also helps in the movement of the joints. It consists ofthe skull, hyoid, auditory muscles, ribs, sternum and the vertebral column. It helps in thestorage of different types of substances that help in the repair, growth and development inthe body(Ostrovidov et al. 2014).8. Briefly describe the structure and functions of the endocrine system (in 60-80 words). The endocrine system consists of different types of glands which help in theproduction of hormones for the growth and development of the body. Thesehormones also improve the functioning of tissues, sexual functions and mood changesin human beings. The endocrine system consists of thyroid gland, pituitary glands, adrenal gland, parathyroid gland, ovaries in females and testicles in males and thepancreas. These glands produce different hormones which target different organs inthe body (Rehfeld, Nylander and Karnov, 2017).9. Briefly describe the structure and functions of the nervous system (in 60-80 words). The nervous system contains two parts, the central nervous system which consists of the brainand the spinal cord and the peripheral nervous system which helps in connecting the centralnervous system to all the parts of the body. It performs different functions such as sensoryfunctions which consists of the transformation of the signals from brain to all the parts of thebody. It also helps in learning, retention of memory and development of emotions. A part ofthe peripheral nervous system pays a vital role in performing different functions such as thefunctions of the gastrointestinal tract (Nave and Werner, 2014).10. How do the endocrine and nervous systems work together to act as a communication system for the human body? (In 60-80 words).Theendocrine and nervous systems work together through hypothalamus which ispresent in the brain. It receives different types of information and stores several typesof sensory information such as pain, hunger, thirst, fear and temperature. When this

information is stored it starts working with autonomic nervous system which is a part ofthe nervous system. This affects and causes several changes .For example, increase inthe rate of lung and heart, or an increase in the flow of blood to the digestive organsand skeletal muscles. Because of these functions, hypothalamus is known as neuro-endocrine tissue(Melmed, 2016).11. Briefly describe the structure and functions of the digestive system (in 60-80 words). The digestive system in the human body consists of the mouth, esophagus, stomach, small intestine, pancreas, liver, gallbladder, colon, rectum and anus. These organs are present in the digestive tract which has muscular walls. These walls help in breaking the chewed food and mixes it with digestive juices present in the stomach. Segementation of food takes place in the small intestine and it promotes the absorptionof nutrients by missing the particles of food(Chapman, 2013).12. Briefly describe the structure and functions of the urinary system(in 60-80 words). The urinary system consists of kidneys, ureters, urinary bladder and the urethra. The kidneyshelp in filtering the blood to remove the waste products from the body and also aid in theproduction of urine. The urinary system also help in maintaining the homeostatsis of bloodpressure, pH, water and ions. The kidneys also help in the production of hormones such ascalcitriol, erythropoietin, rennin and angiotensin (Rehfeld, Nylander and Karnov, 2017).13. Briefly describe how the urinary system, respiratory system, digestive system and integumentary system contribute to excretion of waste products from the human body (in 60-80 words). The Urinary system consists of several organs that help in the removal of waste productsfrom the body in the form of Urea. Respiratory system helps in the elimination of carbondioxide and vapour by the means of a process known as exhalation, also called asbreathing out. The digestive system also play a significant role in the removal of wasteproduct s in the form of faeces with the help of a process known as defecation (Sherwood,2015).14. Briefly describe the structure and functions of the male and female reproductive systems (in 80-100 words). The male reproductive system consists of the penis, testes, scrotum, epididymis, ductus deferens, ejaculatory duct, urethra , seminal vesicles, prostrate glands andCowper’s glands. These organs help in the production of sperm in males and thegrowth and development of the offspring with the help of hormones. The femalereproductive system consists of labia majora, labia minora, clitoris, vagina, uterus, fallopian tubes, and ovary. They help in the production of ova in females whichcombines with the sperm to produce an offspring (Veening et al.2015).15. Briefly describe the interaction of the reproductive and endocrinesystems (in 60-80 words). The reproductive system controls the functions of the endocrine system. The endocrinalglands are called as gonads which secrete sex hormones that play a significant role in thesexual development. The male reproductive organs are called as testes which secreteandrogens that help in regulating the sperm production. The pituitary gland also regulatesthe sex hormones with the help of follicle stimulating hormone and luteinizing hormone(Veening et al.2015).
