INTRODUCTION
Organization behaviour is a very important concept which every business concern must
take into consideration as it helps in providing an understanding about why individuals behave in
a manner as they do in an organization. In addition to this it also helps in analysing the complex
behaviour and nature of human beings within an organization by identifying the cause and effect
of such behaviour (Burrell and Morgan 2017). The company which is being taken into
consideration in this assignment is ASDA stores Ltd. Which is one of the British Supermarket
Retailer company with it headquarter in United Kingdom and was founded in 1949. In this report
brief focus is being given on how organization culture, politics and power can influence the team
behaviour and their performance as well as evaluation of content and process theories is also
being done. Moreover, file also lay emphasis on what makes an effective team as opposed to
ineffective team. Lastly, concepts and philosophies of organization behaviour is also focused in
this report.
TASK 1
P1Analysis about how an organisation’s culture, politics and power influence individual and
team behaviour and performance
Team behaviour plays an essential role in the overall development of an organization so
in order to develop team ASDA company have to focus on organization culture, power and
politics (Coccia and Cadario 2014).
Organization culture: It refers to the values and behaviour which contributes to the
unique psychological and social environment of the business. ASDA company takes into
consideration Hanady's Typology model which specifies that there are four different types of
culture (Coccia 2014). First is power culture which specifies that only few individuals possess
such culture within the organization and their influence is spread throughout the organization.
Next come the role culture which specifies the roles and responsibilities each person hold and it
is determined by the person position in an organization. After this comes the task culture which
is formed in an organization when the company divides each functional activity into different
task so as to address specific problems and progress of the projects. Last comes the person
culture, this types of culture is formed in an organization by the individual themselves, when

they starts thinking that they are the only skilled and talented person in an organization among
others.
Therefore, in order to develop team behaviour and their performance ASDA company
should take into consideration task culture. In addition to this it will also help in developing
knowledge and skill power of each individual. Thus, indirectly will also result in increase in the
productivity and profitability level of an organization.
Organization power: It is referred to as the ability to affect the behaviour of the
workforce with the control of resources. There are basically five types of power namely
legitimate power which is referred to as the positional power and it is derived by the person
position in an organization hierarchy. For example, CEO of ASDA company exercise such
power. Next come expert power, this type of power is derived in a person when he/she possess
expertise knowledge and skills in a particular area. For example, person 'a' in ASDA company is
being highly being valued as he possesses expert power and helps in solving critical problems
which may arise within the organization (Kazemipour and Mohd Amin 2012). After this come
the referent power, this type of power is being developed in an individual from interpersonal
relationships which the person cultivates with other individuals in an organization. For example,
HR of ASDA company possess such power as he/she have to contact large number of individual
in order to recruit and select best candidate. Next come coercive power, through such power one
person get the work done from other via threats and punishments. For example, in some cases
ASDA company adopts such use of power when the employees don’t listen up and work
accordingly. Last come reward power, the person with such power have the ability to influence
the allocation of incentives within an organization. Incentives in the form of positive appraisal,
salary increments and promotions. For example, Manager of ASDA company render reward in
the form of monetary benefits to those individual who give better outcome for the organization.
Thus, it helps in increasing the efficiency and productivity level of the company as well as helps
in building up of team behaviour knowledge, skills and their overall performance level.
Organization politics: It is referred to as the process and behaviour in human interaction
which specifically involves authority power (Kitchin 2017). Organization politics can affect the
organization in both the manner positively and negatively. If the individual within the ASDA
company adopt the politics to carry out work in an effective and efficient manner through proper
co-ordination and communication among each other then it will result in increase in overall
