Homeland security
The united states department of Homeland security is a security department established
by the united states purposely to protect the nation at, within and outside its borders. It’s a
department that was started after the terrorist attack that happened back on September 11th, 2001.
Its main aim is preparing, preventing and responding to domestic agencies and in particular
terrorism. The department of the homeland security is subdivided into other agencies or
subordinate agencies. They include, for instance, federal emergency management agency, office
for civil rights and civil liberties and national protection and programs directorate. In this
assignment, we shall discuss one of the agencies.
The federal emergency management agency
The mission for federal emergency management agency is to support American citizens
and ensure togetherness in the building, sustaining and improving the agencies and nations
capability in preparation for, protection against, responding to, recovering from and mitigating
all potential hazards.
Duties and responsibilities for FEMA
FEMA has the role of handling all possible disaster and terror. Some of these
disasters include natural disaster for instance earthquakes and floods and man-
made disasters like wars and bombings. It prepares, prevents and responds in
event of such disasters happening. (Grabianowski, 2018)
It’s the role and responsibility of FEMA to provide both business owners and
homes within the US and relevant areas with important information that can assist
them in taking steps that can be for preparing for potential disaster occurrences.
Such information can be on, ways that these business owners and homeowners
can improve their homes to avoid disasters from the earthquake and also offer
them driving tip
Assist the citizens and nations in disaster development projects by funding such
projects and educating everyone. (FEMA, 2017)
Analysis of the expanded efforts of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security helps in
guarding us against terrorism
The efforts to improve the security related matters to a better level have seen the
expansion of the US Department of homeland security to being managed by the states. State
government with the help of the US Department of homeland security have been assigned the
most roles in homeland security. It’s the role of these state agencies and departments to bring
together the existing public security, enforce laws and respond to emergencies and link them to
similar local agencies. (Bush, 2003) The department has incorporated many parties including the
private sector as a way of defending against dynamic threats and help in minimizing the risk of
all kinds. Delegating duties to different agencies within this department has led to the fulfillment
of its objective since a terror attack happened September 11th, 2001. (Home land security , 2018)
since this department is coordinated in the white house with help of state agencies, its allocated
huge share of funds that help running its activities.
One of the application examples of how homeland security department helps in detecting,
preventing and responding to terrorism is the mission of conquering the worldwide terrorist
