INTRODUCTION
Tourism sector is one of the main industries which contribute maximum to the economy
of country by providing employment opportunities as well as attracting a large number of
customers across world. It has been indicated from international reports that out of every 10
person, one person is engaged in tourism industry (Murphy, 2013). The main purpose of this
project report is to provide the overall overview of tourism sector and its impact on global
economy. Project covers the way in which local and national economic policy influences the
growth of travel and tourism sector.
Article1:
1.1: Key historical developments in the travel and tourism sector
There are so many tourist destinations such as Buckingham palace, Tower of London etc.
which attract A large number of customers to visit such places. It has been noted that around 30
million tourist visit at such places during a year. The history of tourism industry in late 80s and
90s is as follows:
Period of 1870-80: During this period, skating is one which attracts a large number of
visitors. Especially during winters most of the visitors get attracted towards ice-skating. Rifle
shooting and archery are also popular attractions that the visitors likely to visit for.
Period of 1880-1910: In this period, the visitors were attracted towards cultural places
with a motive to understand the cultural activities of United Kingdom (Morgan and Lugosi,
2010).
Period of 1920-40: This was the period when visitors were likely to visit some notable
places such as Hydra Park, Barrister's wig shop and temple which help them to remind the
country side. While visiting Buckingham palace the people are witnessed the changes that
happened daily.
Period of 1950-70: In this period visitors are likely to visit places such as Club Tahiti on
Shaftesbury Avenue as visiting at such places was affordable by them at that time. Tourist place
were also provides separate guides for men and women in order to provide safety and proper
guidance (Brotherton, 2012).

1.2: Structure of the travel and tourism sector
As tourism industry is considered as a large sector where large number of people are
engaged in tourist activities therefore it can be divided into different sectors which are classified
as follows:
Transportation: In order to visit such tourist place visitor need to use transportation
facilities such as Airlines, Railways, Taxis, etc. This will help tourist to reach at their favourite
destination without facing any difficulties (Smith and Puczkó, 2014).
Accommodation: As there are many tourist who comes from different countries to visit
different destination places which required an accommodation facility for them to stay.
Accommodation with some extras services will help visitors to stay for longer period of time.
Information and coordination: Before visiting tourist place the visitors need to first
search the information about such tourist place and accordingly decide where they want to visit.
After visiting such tourist places, visitors also need to find out the information about attraction
located at tourist places. Through this, there are many support services such as tourist
information centre, tour guides etc which help them in providing sufficient knowledge and
information about tourist places.
Government: It also plays an important role in developing tourism sector by providing
adequate infrastructure facilities in order to generate huge revenue from tourism business.
Attractions: Attractions means the places which attract a large number of visitors from
many nations of the world. These are classified in different categories such as historic places
such as Birmingham palace, cultural places are Art galleries, theatres etc.

2.1: Functions of government, government sponsored bodies and international agencies in travel
and tourism industry
Government plays an important role in development of travel and tourism business
through implementing effective policies and providing infrastructure which help in growth and
success of tourism business.
Local government: It is responsible for the development and growth of tourism business
through giving contribution in form of providing infrastructure facilities such as railway

transportation services which encourage large number of visitors to visit tourist destination
without facing any difficulties. Providing license to private resorts and hotels brings more
customers to focus on visiting tourist place in their country (Radojevic, Stanisic and Stanic,
2015).
International organisations: It also focuses on developing tourism business through
promoting tourist destinations throughout the world which attract a large number of visitors from
many options. Providing transportation and consulting service help in promoting tourist places.
United Nations World Tourism Organisation: It is a specialized agency which services
as a global forum in order to resolve all tourism issues and problems. The WTO put their
maximum efforts in providing appropriate guidance and linking the strengthen with commercial
and non-government partners through its system of affiliate membership.

2.2: Influences of local and national economic policy on the success of travel and tourism sector
There are number of ways by which local and economic policy influences tourism
business which are as follows:
If the local government provides subsidy in building a hotel and resort in specific tourist
places then it will take advantages by tourism business to attract a large number of
customers to visit at their resorts. Formulating effective and attractive policies by
government make a positive impact on the tourism business and its income.
Government need sto manage and control monetary policy through which visitors find no
difficulties while exchanging their own currencies into other currency. Monetary policy
brings fluctuations in the exchange rate of currency and if the value of UK currency
decreases then it will attract large number of visitors to visit whereas if UK currency
increases then it will fall in the number of visitors.

2.3: Implications of political change on the travel and tourism sector in different countries
Tourism business need to initiate and coordinate with political actions by reducing
poverty and increased pressure for fair trade. Political factors restrict the visitor to visit tourist
destination. Fro example suppose a French family would like to visit to UK but due to problem

occurred in getting visa they would reject their option and decided another country to visit
without facing any difficulties.

3.1: Factors affecting tourism demand
The major factors that affect the demand of tourism products and services are as follows:
Demographics: It affected the demand as the tourist holds high purchasing power to
purchase tourist product. They spend income largely on travelling expense in order to visit their
favourite destination.
Technological: Providing information about tourist attractions places on the internet
enable visitor to decide that which place they want to visit (Han and Hyun, 2015).
Fluctuated currency rate: Visitor prefers to visit those country whose monetary value
are low which help them to get extra money on their country's currency while exchanging in
other country.
3.2: Explain how supply has changed to meet the effects of demand
As the natural resources are essentially required for tourism supply which attract most of
the visitors through out the world. There are also various requirements that need to be acquired
by tourism business such as Telecommunication, accommodation and transportation which
brings customers to visit such tourist places without facing any difficulties. Therefore it is
required for tourism business to enter into contractual agreement to supply such services,
products and goods.
The tourism sector can fulfil needs and demands of customers in following ways:
Accommodation: It is essentially required for tourism business to provide
accommodation facilities to near destination places due to which large number of visitors may
show their willingness to visit at such places.
Tour operators: Introducing new and advanced technology at various destination
motivated visitors to reach at various destinations.

Economic and social will bring positive and negative impact on the tourism business in
Venice which are described as follows:
Economic effects:
Positive effects: As tourism business provide many employment opportunities to local
people and transportation facilities to the visitors which directly help in developing economy of
the Venice. When visitors invest money in fulfilling their needs and requirements them it will
directly generate more jobs. As huge income arise from tourism business which will attracted
small business to enter into tourism industry and take advantages in order to generate extra
revenue. The government of Venice generate huge revenue in form of charging taxes on tourism
industry will help them in investing such revenue in development of schools, hospitals etc.
Negative effects: As the visitors are likely to visit tourist places in specific season which
will decreases the employability of large number of persons in Venice. The tourism business
required large amount of infrastructure due to which the government need to incurred cost out of
revenue generated from taxes. Tourism business is become one of the successful industry to
generate revenue because of which multinational company takes advantage to get benefits from
such industry. For this, local community of Venice will fail to get full benefits. Sometimes
natural disasters also bring negative impact on the tourism business.
Social effects
Positive effects: Cultural programs and festivals in Venice encourage large number of
customers from different countries to take participate and understand about their cultural
activities. Making interaction between the host and tourist helps in understanding language of
different country which directly enhance their personality and development (Chen, 2010).
Negative effects: As some tourist are involved and engaged in illegal activities such as
consuming drugs and alcohol etc. which made a negative impact on the tourism business. Ti will
increase crime level in tourist place which demotivate tourist to visit at such places.
Environmental effects
Positive effects: Ecotourism help in encouraging to protect natural resource and wildlife
such as rain forest which attracts large number of visitors. Maintaining animal reserves and
marine parks and charging fees on them help tourism business in generating huge revenue.

Negative effects: Wastage or miss-utilized of natural resources by tourist will bring
negative impact on the economy of country as well. As large number of visitors are arrived at
such tourist places due to which large amount of pollution occurred which cause harmful effects
on environment.
4.2 Strategies that minimises negative and maximises positive impact of tourism
Strategies that minimises the negative impact on tourism in Venice:
Strict laws need to be adopted in order to bring visitors to exact location and take them
back without facing any difficulties.
The activities of tourists should be controlled so that wastage of resources are minimises
and protection of environment are maintained (Vogt, 2011). This will help in bring
maximum satisfaction to their visitors.
Strategies that maximises positive impact on tourism:
Implement effective planning relating to enhancing and protecting environment.
Need to provide financial help for the development of tourism business.
Awareness and education programs should be conducted for the tourist.
CONCLUSION
It has been concluded from the above article that tourism industry is become of the fast
growing and developing industry which provide lot of employment opportunities through which
they can contribute to the economy of country. The economic, social and political factors play an
important role in success of tourist sector.
