INTRODUCTION
Hospitality management can be referred as the study of hospitality industry,
hospitality management covers the restaurants, hotels, amusements conventions, food and
beverages, clubs, destination marketing organisations, etc (Pantelidis, 2016). Hospitality
management refers o the range of occupational and professional practices which is associated
with the administration of the hotels. In this report Hilton hotel is taken as an organisation,
which is a global brand full of service hotels as well as resorts. This report discusses about
the analysis of employability and academic skills by conducting SWOT analysis and
developing a performance development plan. Also, how these skills can be used to get
employment within the hotel and hospitality industry.
MAIN BODY
Personal Swot analysis
Personal swot analysis is the common tool which can be used by an individual for
identifying what are its strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threat in order to achieve its
career objectives. It is vital for an individual to conduct its own Swot analysis as it will allow
an individual to recognise where a particular person is good at or what it lacks for achieving
its career goals (Li and Hopfgartner, 2016). It is also a framework which allows an individual
to focus on its strengths while minimising its weaknesses and also to take the advantage of
various opportunities which are available. With the help of a personal swot analysis a person
has the high chance of achieving the success in the career as it is the framework which allows
a person to maximise it abilities and overcome its weaknesses. For achieving my career
objective which is to become the Front office manager of Hilton Hotel I need to conduct my
swot analysis which is as below:
Strengths: I have got various academic and employability skills which can prove to be my
strengths are-
ï‚· I have a very good communication skills, i can communicate with others in an
effective manner. For the job like Front Office Manager, one should have good
communication skills. Having a good communication skill I can interact with
customers easily and also i will be able to understand them easily due to which i will
be able to address their issue in an effective manner. So, this skill can prove as
strength for me.
ï‚· Another strength in me is that I am very organised person because I am able to
perform various at the same time.
ï‚· I hold a degree of Master of Business Administration is Hotel Management, so t can
also prove to be strength for me as I posses the knowledge about the Hotel industry.
Weaknesses: Following are the weaknesses which can result in hindrances in achieving
my career objective:
ï‚· One of the major weaknesses in me is inability to stay calm under pressure, when i
face pressure like situation I panic due to which I am not able to handle situation

(Martinez, 2017). So, it can prove a big drawback for my career if I am not able to
overcome this weakness.
ï‚· Another weakness in me is that I lack decision making skills, as I am not able to
make decisions easily. I take long time to decide what to do or what not to in a
particular situation.
ï‚· I also lack leadership skills in me as I have never lead a team before, I also lack
the knowledge of leadership style which can be applied by a leader in the
organisation to lead a team.
Opportunities: Various opportunities for me are:
ï‚· Hospitality industry is growing rapidly so, I could have a bright future ahead for
me as I will get an opportunity to learn various things and develop as an
employee.
 Another opportunity is I will be working is UK’s renowned hotel so, it can boost
my career to higher levels.
Threats: There are various threats for me in achieving may career objective are-
ï‚· It is not only me in the race there are various other candidates too who may possess
various skills which are better than me.
ï‚· Experienced candidates can be a major threat for me, as they possess the practical
knowledge and skills of being a Front Office Manager.
Performance Development Plan
As there are various weaknesses in me which can cause barriers in achieving my
career so, I need to develop a Performance Development Plan to overcome these barriers
in order to improve my academic and employability skills. My PDP is as follows:

As, there are various academic and employability skills in me which can help me in
achieving my career goal of becoming a Front Office Manager. My communication skills
are good which can help me to crack the interview very easily and can help me to carry
on my job responsibilities easily. For Hotel Company having a good communication skill
is must as one should be able to understand the needs of the customers and interact with
them effectively. This skill can also help me to set a proper collaboration with guest and
with the management and can also help me to lead the front office team effectively. So,
this skill can help me to achieve my career objective easily. Being an organised person
can help me to carry out multiple tasks at the same time. As front office is the face of
hotel and there are various tasks to be performed in order to satisfy the customer. I will be
able to set priorities to various and will know how to perform these tasks, so it can prove
beneficial for the company as only one person will be performing different tasks at the
same time. So, company does to need to hire separate person for different task to be
performed, so this skill can help me get the job in the Hilton Hotel. Having a effective
leadership skills can help me to lead front office team easily and i will be able to guide
my team and set proper directions for the team so, this skill can help me in achieving my
career objective. Decision making skills can help me take appropriate decisions at
complex situations, as in hotel industry there often arise a situation where taking proper
decision is very important which can bring profits and improve the reputation of the hotel
(Hurrell, 2016.). Decision making skills can also help me in providing solutions to
business problems faced by the hotel which can prove beneficial for the company so, this
is also an important skill which can increase my chance of getting employment in the
hotel and hospitality industry.
CONCLUSION
It can be concluded from the above report that conducting personal swot analysis can
help an individual to develop its skills and knowledge which is important for pursuing the
career objective. Also, it can help the individual to overcome its weaknesses and minimise its
threats by improving the skills and can prepare an individual to face the challenges while
pursuing its career. Present report also concludes that conducting Swot analysis in not enough
but should develop a performance development plan in order to improve its academic and
employability skills in the future.
