HOTEL AND HOSPITALITY MANAGEMENT
Introduction
Sustainability is becoming increasingly important in the modern world both
environmentally and on the basis of market competition. The modern business
organizations are in a mad race to survive in the market as every now and then new
competitors are increasing which are destabilizing the strategies of the older
businesses. On the other hand the rise in the global pollution level is a huge concern for
the hotel and hospital industry (Eclathotels.com). Apart from the concern of the hotels
the concern of the travelers is one of the most notable facts. Most of the travelers are
now opting for an eco friendly tourism to make sure that they leave a positive impact on
the environment. The advent of internet technologies has facilitated the travelers to
search for greener hotels and resorts in the places they travel and also opt for
environment friendly products and services that have a very least impact on the
environment. China has been the frontrunner in the use of eco friendly technologies in
every aspect of life. The country’s infrastructure, roads, vehicles and other necessities
have all been based on green technologies which have helped it to be a frontrunner in
Asia Pacific zone in the adoption of green technologies (Weaver et al. 2016).
Hotel Eclat, Beijing is one of the few such hotels that have a green presence
across the country (Eclathotels.com). The hotel had a different story even a few years
back when sustainability was a alien term to the hotel. An annual review check up by
the government in the year 2008 found the hotel to be breaching the codes of conducts
and was flouting environmental sustainability measures seriously. The government
authorities threatened dire consequences on the above and gave a time period of 6
months to put all things in place. The change in the hotel’s policy in the coming years
would be studied effectively in the following essay.

world.
Technology in the Hotels

another luxury service. China has thus been able to restructure its traditional hotel
industry to the most contemporary and advanced sector with a proper sustainable
development plan (Moscardo 2017).
Findings and Analysis
Sustainable Development was adapted as an integral part of the strategy of
China. The development of a country is not limited to its growth and the development of
the country’s sustainability is not stalled just after a few years (Robbins and Gaczorek
2015). The more is the growth of the development process the more is the increase in
the sustainability. The government of China has set out some strict guidelines for
developing the sustainability of the country (Legrand Sloan and Chen 2016). The
government has ensured to attain sustainability in such a way that it can have an
environmental protection law to save the environment. Such measures can be beneficial
both for the growth of the Chinese economy as well as help to protect the environment
of the country. Therefore it can be said that sustainable development can have a large
number of benefits for the growth of the country. The technological innovations have
been regarded as one of the important drivers for the business organizations to sustain
competitive advantages in the existing businesses and also to explore new business
opportunities (Chong and Ricaurte 2015). Each and every modern business
organizations are pushing for the induction of new technology that helps it to attain an
unique business advantage in the market. Considering the case of the hotel industry, an
advanced database system will surely help the particular hotel to stand out tall above
the rest hotels in the market.
The biggest push for modernization by the management of the different hotels is
the want for new and green technologies that would be helpful for both the increase in
the revenue of the hotels as well as to ensure the creation of a clean and green
environment free from pollution. Green technology involved in the conservation of
energy, protection of the environment, and other green energy and other fields are the
modern forms of energy being adapted by the government to make China a green
country (Kasim et al. 2014). Experts believe that green technology is a game changer in
the modern world as because it holds the key to the sustainability of the organizations.

The end of the fossil fuels will be triggering a mad rush by these organizations for
adapting this technology to survive in the future and thus increasing the demand for this
alternative source of energy (Hall et al. 2016).
The Chinese state council, an independent body under the Government of China
has developed a sustainable development strategy for the business organizations to
adapt in their organizational structure (Kasim et al. 2014). The hotels of China
especially the luxury and semi luxury hotels of China have been extra cautious of the
following policies and have ensured to comply with all the rules and policies of the
government (Gardetti and Torres 2015). The policies has separate provisions that
addresses different issues related to the hotels like consumer operations, environment
protection, health security of the visitors, toilet and laundry services, room services and

Chinese green hotel standard has been one of the best in the business as because the
following policies integrates the operations of the hotel with the practical and feasible
options of the organization and strengthens the work of the environmental management
in the hotels of the country (Ricaurte 2014). The formulation, establishment,
implementation and maintenance of the green hotel standards by the different hotels
and resorts in the mentioned Asian country can be believed to be a sustainable
development process. Due to the development of the technology for the protection of
the environment the continuous process of acknowledging the environmental protection
act and the strengthening of the management of the hotels has helped to improve the

work efficiency is maintained by the employees of the hotel. The employees are also
provided with tablet PC’s that helps to effectively manage the check in and checkout
systems and makes sure that all such works are done lest paper. The reviews provided
by the customers have mentioned that this type of advanced system has been useful for
them as it saves time and helps the business travelers to effectively manage their visits.
There are often some problems with new customers who are new to the automated
system as they find it hard to change to such drastic advancements in knowledge. One
of the most prominent features of the hotel is the Intelligent Navigation System that

that helps the customer to easily find out their rooms. The following steps help to save
the human resource of the hotel as the works are done automatically. The room lights,
AC’s and other electric appliances are turned on automatically once the smart card is

after they enter the room without manually turning on the lights and AC’s (Gardetti and
Torres 2015).

2014).

pollution and increase the demand for producing more food (Chong and Ricaurte
2015).

the atmosphere. The high outputs of oil, natural gas, gasoline and coal. The
