INTRODUCTION
In this present time period, travel and tourism is one of developing sector in world and
also claims as largest industry in world in order to produce the more revenues. Hospitality sector
is wide categories of areas in service industry that consists event planning, transportation,
travelling, theme parks etc. with in tourism sector (Alon, Ni and Wang, 2012). This present
report is based on Double Tree is an American Hotel chain and it is also part of Hilton
Worldwide. Under this mention report will be mention about various kinds of business in
hospitality sector and also diverse services and products. Skills required for the roles with in
hospitality sector along with current skills shortages.
TASK 1
1) Different types of business with in hospitality sector and diverse services and products
Hospitality sector is largest as well as fastest developing in world. In United Kingdom,
there are more than 46000 guest houses and hotel. The main focus of hospitality sector is on
providing the better quality of services to consumers and sustain them for long period of time.
This sector is more diverse because of ownership, leisure facilities,innovation, grading system,
future trends, level of services and many others. Double Tree provides the high quality services
in United Kingdom and its main focus on target the premium as well as luxury class consumers.
It is a main part of Hilton hotel and also provides wide range of services which are mention
below as above:
Food & Service Management- Food services is one of necessary facility given through
hotel. Under this, hospitality sector provides an assistance towards variety of different sectors
ranging from the traditional hospitality sectors for an instance hotels and restaurants to other
sectors. It provides services related to drink, foods, housekeeping etc. The Double Tree hotel
provides high quality of foods items and take care of hygiene. It is helpful in sustain consumers
for long period of time and enhance profitability.
Hospitality services- It gives support to various other sectors which are ranging from the
hotels to restaurants. It provides drink, foods and management related facilities such as
housekeeping and security.
Transportation services- Double Tree hotel by Hilton provides the transportation
services to tourists so that they can travel. It provides different modes of transportation such as

bus, cars, vans etc. This hotel also provides the pick up and drop facilities to its customers from
Airport etc.
These all are the different kinds of business of Double Tree by Hilton hotel and these all
give contribution towards maximising profit level of business. On the other hand, this hotel
provide diverse services as well as products to consumers on the basis of their needs and wants.
The diverse services included parking facilities, breakfast, lunch, dinner, swimming pool, Fitness
centre etc. which can help in enhance experience of consumers or visitors.
2) Contribution of hospitality industry to local, national and international economies
Under this, hospitality sector is expand its business quickly and it is contributed towards
the local, national and international economics. In this present time period, hospitality sector is
expanding its business in all around the world as well as promoting its development in modifying
multicultural environment. Hospitality is main provision of venues, drinks, accommodations and
meals to visitors or consumers. It is being developed at local, national and global level. In
addition to Double Tree by Hilton Hotel contribute towards enhancing local, national and
international economies.
Local- At this level, hospitality sector works for fulfilling requirements and demands of
consumers by providing them better quality of services or products. In this, it has been
determined that hospitality sector increased consumer's satisfaction level in a better and also
provide them better experience.
National- Hospitality is a sector that provide the advantages to each industry of national
economy. In order to enhancing national economies, hospitality sector provide the better
employment opportunities to people so that they can earn and enhance their standard of living.
On the other hand, it has been analysed that, hospitality sector developed almost 328 million of
jobs in all over the world.
International- In this, hospitality is major source of the Foreign currency exchange as
well as managers to provide employment to workforce. This sector is helpful in bring various
culture together at international level. When Double Tree by Hilton hotel will expand its
business at internal level and it will provide the better job opportunities to their people, generate
profit, develops diversification and many others.

development of hospitality industry and contributed to total economic worth
Under this, growth of the global tourism impacts directly on fast dispersion and
development of hotel sector. Enhanced demand for services of hotel as well as economic
development affect changes in hotel sector. On the other hand, in context to global growth,
people come from different countries for travelling from different purposes so it helps in give
contribution towards the hospitality sector. This industry make changes in its menu, facilities in
order to attract more people as well as enhance profit level. In context to Double Tree by Hotel
Hotel, it is observed that it uses different licensing as well as franchising options to serve its
services at international level. License gives legal authority to hotels to engage in some acts and
it is also necessary for protection of public. As Hilton hotel is a multinational hospitality
organisation that manage as well as franchises wider portfolios of resorts or hotels. In this, Hilton
Franchise Holding the LLC is franchisor. It manage and owns portfolio of brands, Conrad hotels,
Double Tree, Hampton Inn and many others.
By using the franchising, Hilton hotel is able to provide its services in all over the world.
It is helpful in enhancing interest of people and making their experience better towards the
services of Hilton hotel. It is maximising profitability of Hospitality industry and also contribute
towards enhancing total economic development.

1) Various operational and functional departments in hospitality sector
In Double Tree by Hilton Hotel, there are different departments working and also
responsible for conducting business functions in an effective manner. The functional and
operational departments is responsible for performing the daily basis activities. Under this,
different operational and functional departments in the hospitality industry mention below:
Operational departments- Under this, there are four main operational departments in
hospitality sector and these are Food production or Kitchen, Front Housekeeping department and
Food and Beverage Service Departments. The roles of these departments are different from each
other but they have common goals and objectives (Bailly and Léné, 2012).

Functional departments- The different departs in hospitality sector looks towards daily
basis activities as well as functioning. Under this, main functional areas in hospitality sector are
marketing, sales, customer service, research and development, human resource, security etc.
These all different departments are interrelated with the each other. Like, department of
house- keeping is interconnected with human resource, cleaning, food and beverages, front office
and many others.
2) Different employment roles found in operational department in hospitality sector.
Employment roles refers to roles which are included in a job or at workplace. In an
organisation, there are employment roles in the hospitality sector. Under th9is, there are different
areas of operational department mention below as above:
Executives: It is part of top management and involve in any decision making process.
Their main role is to undertake many activities on the basis of needs of firm. They have the
better skills in order to communicate with staff members and also develop with them better
relationship (Erbakanova, 2016).
Front desk services: It is used for administrative department when the duties of
receptionist may consist reservation, registration of guests, credit checks, control, check mails
and messages etc. They develop better image in front of consumers because they are firstly meet
with them. This department should have better communication skills so that they can deal with
international clients and provide them services by understand their needs.
Housekeeping: The main role of this department is to maintain hygienic as well as
cleanliness of hotel so that tourist can be attract in a better manner.
Maintenance: It needs those people which know technical concept and also able to deal
with complaints of consumers. In this departments, Hilton hotel has sufficient staff.
3) A review of the skills gaps and shortages in such types
Skill gap refers to difference in skills which are needed on job and actual skills are
possesses through staff members. It presents an effective opportunities for firm and employees to
determine missing skills. Under this, skill gap is helpful for an individual to identify their skills
and see differences. It is more beneficial in order to make improvement in skills which are lack.
Shortages of skills faced through various job roles are mention below:
Executives- Under this, mangers of Hilton hotel do not have proper management skills to
manage any operations or activities (Hossain, 2016).

Front desk services- In this post, employees have lack of communication skills to
interact with consumers. When they deal with international clients, they feel very nervous.
Housekeeping- The work of this department is to solve query of clients or visitors in a
better manner.
Maintenance- In this, manager does not provide hygienic, healthy and safe working
conditions to employees. It develops negative impact on their skills as well as performance level.
4) Analysis of how skills gaps impacts on hospitality businesses and ways through which could
be resolved
Skills gap develop its negative impact on performance level of employees as well as
organisation. If employees will not have better skills then they do not perform well as not able to
provide better services to consumers. It will develop negative effect on reputation or brand image
of hotel.
In order to overcome from the skills, it is necessary to provide training and reduce the
skill gap. Training is helpful in improving or enhancing skills, knowledge and core competencies
of staff members so that they can perform in a better manner (Markova and et. al., 2016). It will
help in enhance motivation level of employees and company can earn more profit.
CONCLUSION
It has been concluded from above mention report that hospital industry provide the large
number of services to visitors or consumers. Its main focus is to provide better experience to
people and sustain them for long period of time. In this report studied about the different
operational as well as functional departments in hospitality industry. Hospitality sector contribute
towards local, national and international economies has been also discussed under this.
