INTRODUCTION
There are different types of business found in the public and private sectors having different
types of structures. Every business have various operational functions such as accounting, human
resources and finance (Joy, 2018). Business needs to follow some key employment legislations.
Business organisations maintaining effective customer services gains success. Marks & Spencer
is retail business organisation that operates under private sector and offers wide range of
products and services to its customers. In the present report, stages of team development and
motivational theories are explained. Report also includes analysis of impacts of customer
services and also impacts of leadership styles on the employees.

Importance of accounting for business success
Data, reports, records, accurate information regarding assests, liabilities, profits and losses
is required for running the business organisation (Duska, Duska and Kury, 2018). Maintaining
accounting is important for effectively managing the business activities and for decision making
as well. Business success is dependent on the proper and accurate maintenance of the financial
records or accounting.
Different functions carried out by HR department
Human Resource Department of business focus on effectively managing the human
resources or employees. The main functions that are carried out by HR are selection and
recruitment of employees, providing them training and development, Performance management,
considering business key regulations and legislation and to provide rewards and recognition to
employees.

Key features of employment legislation
Implementing employment legislation and regulations is important for every business
organisation. The key features of employment legislation are minimum wage rate, health and
safety, redundancy, dismissal, discrimination, equality, training, union rights and disciplinary
procedures (Reid, 2018).
Benefits of employment legislation to employees and businesses
Business organisations effectively following employment legislation gets many benefits
and advantages. Employees gets benefits in form of safety and security, equality, avoids
discrimination as business implements concerned laws by the government. Businesses gets
benefit in form increased reputation and brand image, motivated and encouraged employees and
improved business operations and achievement of targeted goals.
Impacts of employment legislation on businesses in UK
Business organisation aims at implementing various employment legislations formulated by
UK government. Business can get positively impacted due to this in form of increased brand
image, satisfied and motivated employees, business success, improved productivity and
profitability of company. UK employment legislation aims at regulating relations between the
employees, employer and trade unions.

Interpretation of information on profit and loss account of Marks & Spencer

This is the profit and loss account of Marks & Spencer for the year 2012. Profit & Loss
account of company shows net profit or loss for that financial year (Conti, Michael and Moser,
International Business Machines Corp, 2018). Gross profit is found out through reducing cost of
goods sold from the total operating revenue. Total overheads are then reduced from gross profit
to find out operating income and i.e. 6000. Net earnings of a company can be found out by
reducing other income or expenses, loan interest and income taxes from the operating income of
the company. Business success can be effectively analysed through accounts of company.
Business rations for analysing business performance
 Operating profit margin= operating income/net revenue
6000/15000= 0.4 or 40%
Thus, operating profit margin of Marks & Spencer is 0.4
 Net profit margin= net income/ net revenue
5000/ 15000= 0.33 or 33%
Thus, net profit margin of Marks & Spencer is 33% or 0.33
Budgets, profit and loss accounts and cash flow predictions for analysing business performance
This is the profit and loss account of Marks & Spencer for the year 2015. Revenue of the
company for that year are 10000 € from which direct costs are reduced for calculating gross
profit. Other incomes are added to gross profit and overheads or expenses are reduced to
calculate pre-tax profits which is 15000 €. Post-tax profits are 11550 € which are calculated by
reducing tax from the pre-tax profits (Prentice, Jayawickreme and Fleeson, 2019).

This is the cash flow statement of Marks & Spencer company which can be used for
analysing about the success of business.

Determining own and other’s roles within team
Every member of the team is provided with different roles and responsibilities. Team role
refers to tendency for behaving, contributing and interrelating with other members in a particular
manner. People within a team plays different roles such as shaper, implementer, complete

finisher, coordinator, team worker, resource investigator, plant, monitor- evaluator and specialist.
My role within the team is monitor-evaluator as I focus on analysing and evaluating ideas.

 Stages of team development: Bruce Tuckman developed team development theory which
can be used for developing an effective team through various stages (Gander and et.al.,
2018). The stages of team development are forming, storming, norming, performing and
adjourning.
 Motivational theories: Maslow’s motivational hierarchy of needs theory can be used for
effectively motivating employees. This theory describes that physiological, safety, social,
esteem and self-actualization needs of the employees. Skinner’s reinforcement theory or
Alderfer’s ERG theory and Herzberg’s two-factor theory can be used by Marks &
Spencer for motivating employees.
 Different leadership styles: Autocratic, democratic, participative, servant, transactional,
charismatic and laissez-faire leadership styles that may be used according with the
business situations (Ruch and et.al., 2018).
Appropriateness of leadership and motivational styles in different situations
Different leadership styles and motivational theories can be used by business organisations
according to different situations of business. Motivational theories like intrinsic theories helps in
motivating employees effectively in accordance with the situations. Participative or democratic
leadership styles can be for encouraging employees whereas autocratic style can be used for
completing the task in effective manner.
Evaluation of motivational theories for motivating employees
Various motivational theories ensures that it effectively motivates and encourages
employees and they tend to put their best efforts in the business operations and activities. For
example, Maslow’s motivation theory describes that fulfilling needs of employees helps in
motivating them (Maslow Motivation Theory, 2018).
Impacts of different leadership styles on employees
Different leadership styles includes participative, autocratic, democratic and etc. These
leadership styles lead to bring great impacts and influences on the employees working. For

example, employees feel satisfied when the leader adapt to participative leadership style and they
tend to put their best efforts towards achievement of targeted goals.

organisations. Various business economic factors such as local, national and global that impacts
business organisations. Business needs to follow various key employment legislation which leads
to impact business organisation. These legislation also brings benefit to both employees and

accounts, cash flow and budgets. Different leadership styles and motivational theories bring great
impact on the employees. Customer service also leads to bring great impacts on the business
success.
