The phenomenon of royal influence in fashion is not a new concept, where ‘Diana effect’,

in London.
In early periods, people especially women who belong from royal families have to follow
certain rules in terms of wear, way to behave and more. It includes Princess Alexander who born
into Danish royal family, was considered as one the fashionable women to whom public were
carving (Kawamura, 2018). This Princess was a fashion icon and used to involved in crafting

woman, who also like to express her taste and break monarchy by wearing fashionable clothes
that suits her style (How royal women have shaped fashion, 2018). In this sense, a number of

have been written like ‘She has an ability to sell clothes and other accessories to public just by

From various secondary resources, it has been evaluated that the dressing style of Diana is
based generally on both styles viz. most popular modern styles and demand of royal family in
Britain, which has developed the personal fashion trend of her (Geczy and Karaminas,
2018). However, on diplomatic trips, this Princess used to choose clothes and attire which was
match with costumers of destination countries' costumes, where on off-duty period, she has
preferred to wear casual loose jackets and jumpers. According to David Sassoon, one of her
designers that have worked with Princess Diana, believed that she had "broken the royal dressing
rules" by trying new styles. Wearing gloves was considered as one of the royal clothing
traditions, where putting aside this type of wearing, Diana has believed that this practice need to
be followed by everyone, because it would prevent them from direct connection with people who
might suffering from serious diseases like Cholera, AIDS and more (Kawamura, 2018). In order
to promote luxury fashion brands and style of simplicity with boldness, this Princess used to
wear some specific types of clothes like silk chiffon evening gown, velvet silk outfit, cocktail
dress and wearing colourful dresses, at charity events.
The influential short hairstyle was another main step taken by Diana in 1990 after
a Vogue shoot and created by Sam McKnight has brought more liberty to her which always
looked great. This step has also taken revolutionary change in fashion world in London, where
other women also like to copy her style (Geczy and Karaminas, 2018). Diana as reportedly used
to put her own make up as well as hairstylist before going an event, to shown her amazing style.
Considering such facts, This Princess was then named to International Best Dressed List Hall of
Fame in 1989. Along with this, in 2004, People (The American magazine) also cited Diana as
one of the amazing personality who has considered as all-time most beautiful royal women.
Thus, it has been concluded from all over discussion that in changing the monarchies in London
and promoting new fashion, royal women has contributed their main role (Kawamura, 2018).
The steps they have taken to wear clothes that suits their personality, by breaking rules and
traditional customs, has helped London Fashion industry to become one of the fast changing and
every growing industries.
