INTRODUCTION
Academic skills are the array of quality which tackle the process of organizing and taking
new information. These skills are reading, writing, group work, sources and presentation. The
present study also focus on the academic skills and its usage. The present reflective report,
describe how the key academic skills are developed in order to fit it into the business by using
Kolb and Honey & Mumford theory. Further report also explain how the academic skills will
also serve as a future worker in the business environment by using Belbin's Self- Perception
Inventory.
a) Presenting how the key academic skills developed throughout this module can fit into a
business context
To run a business in effective manner, I realized that an individual must posses some
academic skills such as reading, writing, sources, group work and way of presentation. As I also
read out many theories which help that these skills will assist to communicate in effective
manner. For example, by using Kolb's learning cycle which helps me to overcome my weakness
such as:
Concrete experience: In this cycle I realised that I have good reading and writing skills
but on the other side, I realize that the presentation skills are not up to the mark which helps me
to communicate my view points to my peers (Easterby-Smith and Cunliffe, 2017).
Reflective observation: As I realised that I am lacking some presentation academic skills
which needs to be improve because due to lacking of those skills will directly impact upon my
working area such that I cannot express my view points easily.
Abstract conceptualization: To overcome this weakness, I start consulting with my
peers and subordinates in order to get better ideas to improve my weak academic skills.
Active experimentation: by taking ideas from colleagues, I start taking classes to
improve my presentation skills so that it will help me to communicate my points to others.
Therefore, it will easily fit into the business context (Ferguson, Makarem and Jones, 2016).
On the other side, using source academic skills I found that Honey and Mumford is
another model that helps me to reflect my strength and weaknesses in academic skills (Bassot,
2015). As I realised that reading, writing and sources are my key strength while on the other side,
I cannot easily present myself because of lacking presentation skills. From the Honey and

Mumford theory, using pragmatist style, I realised that I also have the capacity to perceive how
to put the learning into a practice in reality. Even though I also realised that I can easily convert
my weaknesses into my strength by start attending classes and start giving presentation in order
to overcome it. If the skills are overcome then it will be helpful to solve many problems and
discussion.
By using both Kolb and Honey & Mumford model of reflection, I easily evaluate my
strength and weaknesses which needs to be developed so that it will help to lead a business at
further level of success.
b) Presenting how these skills would serve as a future worker in the business environment
I found that academic skills will definitely help as a future worker in the business. Such
that I have good reading and writing skills which further assist to become an employee because
reading helps to increase vocabulary and it directly helps to improve writing. As I posses good
writing skills which also helps me in planning and researching in order to deal with some
complex projects in my future projects. Moreover, I also realised that to work in a reputed firm it
is quite necessary to have good academic skills (Kumar and Pande, 2018). On the other side I
realised that I also have lack of presentation skills which has to be improved by start attending
classes and presenting myself in a group which helps me to overcome my fear.
Apart from this, I used Belbin's Self perception inventory in order to shape the
responsibility in a work based team exercise. As this theory states nine team roles such as plant
(creative, imaginative and solve difficult problem), Resource investigator (communicative,
explore opportunities), coordination (mature, confident, promote team members), shaper
(challenging), Evaluator (serious minded and judge others), Team worker (coo- operative, mild),
implementer (disciplined), completer (anxious), Specialist (single minded, self starting). Among
all, I preferred to chose Coordinator because this role needs confident, reading, writing and
presentation skills which helps to lead a team in better way and can easily accomplish the
defined goals of a company. Being a coordinator, I also realised that having group work skills is
also helpful because it aids to resolve the conflicts between the team members (Tarry, 2018). In
the same way I also posses this skills so that it will help me to lead my role in as a coordinator in
well manner. As I realised that this quality is quite necessary because in a team there are many
conflicts and it is the duty of the leader or a coordinator to resolve it.

Group work ability is also brings other people together in order to promote team
discussion and they also resolve many issues by using this skill. Further, reading, writing, group
work and presentation skills will help to lead a team in better way and also to a business at
further level of success. Being a coordinator, I must posses a capacity for treating all the
contributors in well manner and also welcome them and let them realises about their new
responsibility (Meslec and Curşeu, 2015). Hence, by using Belbin's Self- Perception Inventory, I
can easily serve as a future worker and can run a business in better way.
CONCLUSION
By summing up above report it has been concluded that academic skills plays a
significant role in an individual as well as professional life. As report concluded that I have good
reading and writing skills but on the other side, I have lack of presentation skills as analysed by
Kolb and Honey & Mumford theory and it should be overcome. As report also concluded that
there is a need to overcome these skills because it will help to serve as a future worker in a
business.
