INTRODUCTION
Business communication is a process which enable sharing of ideas and knowledge
between individuals within and outside the company that is further executed for the commercial
advantages of the business (Menguc and et.al., 2013). It further relates to ways through which
organization shares information about its products and services with prospective buyers to
encourage its sales. In this report, various aspect of business communication will be studied in
the context of provided case study.

INTRODUCTION
It is important for the organization to engage the employees of the firm in their decision
making process and also in various activities of the company. Further, this engagement will
motivate the employees in carrying out effective performance and along with that, it boost their
morale up to high extent. This report primarily focuses on the employee engagement in Garth
Ltd. It has been identified that most of the employees of this firm is not satisfied and they are
facing one or the other problem. This employees are facing the issues such as poor
communication from the top management, their work is no0t valued or rewarded which means
there is no reward policy (Menguc and et.al., 2013). Furthermore, the some of the employees feel
that there is not career growth opportunity provided by the management. Moreover, several
employees are facing the issue of conflicting work and family roles and require the company
should have flexible working policy.
The purpose of making this report is to explore several employee engagement practice in
order to enhance the morale of the employees so that their performance can be enhanced.
Furthermore, by adopting such practice the organization can get several alternatives which will
be beneficial for them in the implementation of the new decisions. This way the employees will

not resist the change and will support the management during the implementation of change
(Anitha, 2014).
The scope of this report is that, after the implementation of such practices in the
organization, company can retain their employees for longer time and this employee turnover can
be reduced. Furthermore, the learner can understand the importance of these practices and the
implementation of which can be significant for the organization. The information about the
employee engagement policies have been gathered from 5 small enterprises that are Periscopix,
Shine Communications, Rockpool Company, Penta Consulting and Cambridge Consultant. The
data has been collected using the internet source and by consulting their management personally.

Employee engagement is important process that is used by management to increase the
involvement of individuals within the company. It is effective process that determines the degree
to which human assets feel aroused about their work, are committed and loyal to the company
goals and put extra endeavours to attain the strategic goals of business (Shuck and Rose, 2013).
This approach is used as tool by business to increase the satisfaction level of individuals. It
further inculcate positive attitude among employees which encourage them to take challenges
and perform beyond their potential (Alfes and et.al., 2013). The main objective of employee
engagement practices is to increase the participation of employees so they can contribute to the
success of business by giving valuable suggestions, extra efforts, performing various task etc.
To assure employee engagement, it is important for company to involve individuals in business
decision making, provide responsibility etc. Employee engagement process play important role
in improving the communication between employees at various levels and management which
further leads to strengthen relationship between both the said parties (Welch, 2015).
From the provided case study of Gareth Ltd it is clear that organization is presently
facing various issues related to its human resources. The major issues are regarding low morale
among employees which also affect their quality of work performance and productivity. The low
morale is also leading to poor employee retention and poor productivity within the company
(Merrill and et.al., 2013). The major reason for the low morale among employees is due to

inadequate communication from higher authorities. Also, individuals have improper knowledge
about the vision and core purpose of the entity. The structure of entity was also in appropriate
leading to lack of alignment between management and employees (Hewitt, 2012). Thereafter,
lack of rewards to human assets for the effective performance done by them is also de-
motivating them. Also, it is identified that poor training and development opportunities provided
to employees is also reason for low morale of employees as they were not getting progress in
their career. Other than this, work related stress among human resources is also responsible for
the ineffective performance and low motivation among employees (Mone and London, 2014).
To prevent the negative impact of poor employee morale on the performance and productivity of
business it is important to take significant steps. For this aspect, it can follow the practices
adopted by other small sized organization in UK. To understand the worth of employee
engagement and practices underpin examples of entities like, Periscopix, Rockpool, Shine
communication, Penta Consulting and Soultions Private LTD can be considered.
To assure employee engagement within entity, Shine communication a leading consulting
company assure proper communication between management and employees. For this aspect,
regular meetings and held between said parties (Mirvis, 2012). The individuals are given
freedom to contact the executives using telecommunication; emails etc. so that they can discuss
new ideas, problems, give suggestion etc. In addition to this aspect, Solution Pvt Ltd use a web
application which connect all members and executives where direct interaction can be done
within parties where they discuss work related issues and their possible solutions (Shuck and
et.al., 2013). Thereafter, rewards must be used within corporation so that employee works
beyond their potential. Such as, Periscopix use monetary rewards like, cash bonus, hike in salary
and bonus shares to recognize the better performance of employees (Anitha, 2014). Thereafter,
Rockpool assign the duty to line manager to check the work of employees and identify their
training and development needs. Therefore, company encourage off the job and on the job
training methods so that continuous grooming can be provided to individual which facilitate their
career development as well as improve their performance in company. The trained individuals
further perform work in best possible mode with minimum wastage and less cost. Further, Shine
communication identify the training needs of individuals and provide development session on
that basis (Alfes and et.al., 2013). Thereafter, to reduce the stress level among employee and

prevent impact of personal lives on work, organization promotes work-life balance among
employees. Therefore, it provides flexible working hours to individuals so they can select the
working time as per their suitability. Also, they can work from home in case they are required to

from the side of management encourages the workers to perform their work properly. These help
female employees who have to stay back at home for managing their children. All the
aforementioned aspect, help corporations in retaining the talented workforce within the

After preparing this report, it has been concluded that in Garth Ltd. there is a lack of
proper communication among the employees and they are not clear about their goals.
Furthermore, the company has no proper reward policy which de-motivates the employees of the
firm. Furthermore, this firm also does not provide career growth opportunities to their staff
members. Along with that, the organization has rigid working policy which creates great
conflicts between the work and family roles of workforce. Therefore, the company has identified
several employee engagement practices for the staff members in order to involve them in several
decisions making processes. The investigative report also describes numerous employee
engagement practices which have been adopted by several small scale enterprises such as
Periscopix, Rockpool, Shine Communication, etc. Moreover, the report has concluded that
meetings are held with the employees in these organizations in order to communicate the
information to the employees. Along with that, training session has been organized and also
these firms have identified the training needs of the employees in order to provide them career
growth opportunities. Along with that, time flexibility has been given to the employees of these
several small organizations in order to manage the work and family roles in an easier manner so
that employee does not get stress. It is because the stressed employee cannot carry out the task in
an effective manner. Furthermore, these companies have also provided some stress relived
session in order to make the employee feel relax during the heavy workload. At last, it has been
concluded that employee engagement practices plays an essential role in increasing the morale of

employees at workplace and this helps in retaining the employees at the organization for longer
period of time.
RECOMMENDATIONS
There are several recommendations which have been made for the Garth Ltd. in order to
adopt several good employee engagement practices for the purpose of enhancing the morale of
the employees. Some of the recommendations have been described as follows: The Garth Ltd. must carry out regular meetings with the employees of the firm in order to
communicate information related with the work and firm. This way clear information can
be communicated to the employees so that they feel loaded with the information. This
way clear direction can be provided to them in order to carry out their working in an
effective manner. Furthermore, if the vision and mission of the company stays clear with
them then the employee can work in accordance with them. This way employee
performance can be enhanced and employee consider themselves as the part of company. Secondly, company must provide monthly or quarterly rewards to the employees based
on their performance so that they feel that their contribution is valued by the
organization. Furthermore, the employee will be highly motivated by getting rewards. Moreover, the management must identify the training needs of all the employees and also
they must identify their capabilities so they can be provided with growth opportunities
such as promotions. Furthermore, the time flexibility could be provided to them so that the conflicting
situations can be reduced. Along with that, the company must provide stress relieving
session in order to relive their stress. This way employee can be retained in the
organization for longer period of time and this is how employee turnover can be reduced.

Reflection: My experience in compiling the portfolio – reflection
Reflection is the crucial part that is worked out with an objective of to present the
resultant outcomes of work that are conducted in streamline (Nathan, 2009). On that account, the
present work has been presented to conduct the various tools and techniques which are of core

significance to undertake business communication. On the basis of conducting present work, I
believe that it comprises of different objectives and work to accomplish the learning goal. The
entire work has been presented with regards to get in depth knowledge and understanding about
the different modes of business communication. I have presented by best of efforts in addressing
all the tasks which are pertaining to different methods of how to deliver the things to the target
audience (Thomas, 2014). In this regard, this current business report worked by me has been
proved to be a contributory and it has been unsuccessful without the fulfilment of resources and
requirements which are used by me.
In order to work on the basis of different tools business communication tools, I have
referred to the materials such as books, online articles, grammar hand notes etc (Thomas, 2009).
According to me, samples provided on how to write effective letter or e-mail proved to be of
great resource. With the current research, I have been able to equip myself with stating the
appropriate style of forming formal sentences. Reading such articles helped me to go through the
ways to address the points by keeping target audience and receiver of the letter or email in very
polite and suitable manner. However, it took me challenging to manage work on time (Thomas,
2009). However, I worked out the same by using various time management strategies such as
log, diary, remainders, etc. However, grammar error at some part proved point of weakness to
me but proof reading act as a crucial tool in overcoming with the aspect. From the present
research, I learned about the basic rules of writing a formal working. The present work proved to
be of great advantage for developing my basic concepts to pursue future learning. The present
learning this provides me with different ways in order to enhance my base so that I can undertake
and work upon delivering fruitful outcome. This proved to be of great significance in meeting
my present as well as future development and career growth needs.
CONCLUSION
This report concludes that business communication is extremely useful in order to carry
out the business in a smooth manner. The entire task concludes that major role played by the
communication process in every situation as without which any of the organization cannot
motivate and retain their employees.
