Human Resource Management Article Review
Human resource management is an important aspect in every organization. It is the
function that focuses on the recruitment, management and offering direction for the personnel
who work within a particular organization. For this reason, the function is a fundamental
component of every organization. It is in this regard that Albrecht, Bakker, Gruman, Macey and
Saks (2015) examine the topic in their article “Employee engagement, human resource
management practices and competitive advantage: An integrated approach.” Basically, this paper
reviews various aspects of this article as regards to the topic of human resource management
within the organization.
Notably, the paper is well written and the authors demonstrate a great understanding and
mastery on the concept of human resource. Particularly, this is shown in their explanation of the
key models of human resource management practices within an organization. These models
include job resources, organizational culture, job demands, and employee engagement. The
article also discusses using evidence the interrelationships that exists between organizational
factors, individual employee outcomes, competitive advantage as well as individual employee
psychological and motivational factor. For this reason, the authors comprehensively cover the
concept of human resource management.
It is also noteworthy that Albrecht et al. (2015) uses methodology and research design to
conduct the research and obtain relevant results on the topic. They utilize a secondary research
methodology in the study. As such, they conduct a conceptual review of previous works that
show evidence of the relationship between organizational context factors. Additionally, it
integrates research works that have previously been conducted independently in the human
