INTRODUCTION
Human resource management is an involvement of three words such as human that is
termed as the workforce who works in the firm, resources can be defined as raw material which
are essential for completing the task and Management is used for proper controlling and
regulating the whole process and functions of organisation so that resources can be utilised in
optimal manner. In addition to this, HRM is defined as a procedure of managing and controlling
of the workforce of organisation so that maximum profitability or productivity can be gained in a
small time period. Present assignment is based on two organisations like Chocolate presence and
Microsoft(Arnaboldi, Lapsley and Steccolini,2015). This assignment will discuss about the
purpose and importance of HR manager along with strength and weaknesses of selection
methods in an organisation. Various kind of training programme which are provided by
Microsoft will also covers along with benefits and perks of it. Importance of employee
engagement and legislations which will also discussed in this report.

TASK 1
A) Purpose and Importance of HR function for the company
HRM is considered as the most important department of a firm which performs an
impressive duty of managing and controlling of employees of an organisation so that competitive
advantage can be gained in market within a small time period. HR functions are mainly related
with processing and managing of administration programmes so that productivity and
profitability of firm can be enhanced in an effective manner. Some basic functions that are very
essential for the HR department of Chocolate Presence to perform so that desired goals or
objectives can be achieved in proper manner(Askenazy and Forth,2016). Purpose and importance
of HR functions are given as under:
Staffing- It is the main function of HR department in which they have to hire suitable and
perfect employees so that task can be accomplished in desired manner. Main purpose

communicating with employees and solving their problems so that they perform better. It is the

and objectives of the organisation to the employees. So that they are motivated and loyal towards
their work. And by this the employees will also have a sense of belongingness towards the

There are various selection methods which can be used by Chocolate Presence for
selecting the right candidate for the right job. The company has chosen interview method and
assessment test method for the purpose of selecting the employees. As the assessment test will
consist of some questions of English and some of Mathematics(Budhwar, Tung and et. al.,
2017). This is done to know the skills and knowledge of the candidate. If the candidate has
achieved more than 50 percent marks in the test than the person is called for personal interview
round.

Recognition- Employee's in Microsoft may also get motivate with the desire of being
recognized. If the employee's are appraised and recognized for the good work done than
the individual will automatically get motivated to perform even better.
Training and development- If Microsoft wants to motivate its employee's than the
company can arrange training and development programmes for its employee's. So that
their skills and knowledge is increased and they are motivated to work in a desired
manner.

A) Defining employee engagement and its importance for effective employee relation in the
organisation.
Employee's engagement means encouraging people to be committed towards their work.
So that the goals of the employee and Microsoft is achieved. It is also concerned with providing
appropriate working conditions to the employees so that they perform even better(Welch and
Björkman,2015). Employee engagement simply means building trust, communication and
commitment among the employee's in the organisation. Importance of employee engagement for
effective employee relation is discussed below:
Customer satisfaction- If the employee is properly engaged in the work of the
organisation and if the employee is loyal towards their work than they will be able to give
better services to the customers. The customers will be satisfied with the products and
services of Microsoft because the employee's know how they are expected to work.
Increases the productivity: Employee engagement will directly lead to increase in
productivity of Microsoft . It is seen that if the employees are engaged in their work than
they will definitely help in increasing the overall productivity of the company. Increase in
employee engagement will make the employees feel that they are valuable to the
company.

mind the goals and objectives of Microsoft.
Microsoft teams- In this method the group of people share information with each other.
The information is related to the task assigned to them.

Occupational health and safety act, 1974- This act says that the health and safety of the
employees must be taken into consideration by the organisation. It is the duty of the organisation
to provide the safety measures to the employees.
Civil rights, 1998- This act safeguards the right of the employees from the discrimination
on the basis of gender, caste, creed, religion, etc. The HR manager must follow the laws in the
proper manner. So that the exploitation of the employees is not done. If these laws are not
followed than employees will not be satisfied with their work and this may lead to employee
turnover.
